Drove home in the dark for an hour, dipped and main beam failed just as I got home...

Quick inspection with the multimeter and surprise surprise, it's the small knob that's let her down, again Mad

Top of my to-do list! - Is there a relay kit available to buy online for 2000 TD5s?

For now it's 'mend and make do' until I can find somewhere that sells a high amp toggle switch this afternoon Sheep

You don't need a kit - just go to polevolt and buy enough cable and a couple of relays and headlight connectors.

Then just spend an afternoon wiring the thing in.

I made one up for my 110 after the switch melted.

Used a couple of relays. Fortunately I also had an old bulkhead loom, so could chop off the socket (off of the main loom) and along with the plug off of my melted switch, had a truly plug & play loom.

I used the main 12v light feed (which is the thick brown wire), to feed both relay switch contacts (pin 30), and also to feed the normal brown that goes to the headlight switch.

From said switch, there is red (sidelights IIRC), and blue (headlights), each of these goes to one of the relays (onto one side of the coil, pin 86), both pin 85's can be joined together then earthed to a suitable point.

So when you now switch the headlight switch, first position one relay will energise, second position, the other relay will energise.

Now, there will be a red and blue floarting about, waiting for a power feed to be connected. These will connect to pin 87 on each relay, obviosuly using the correct relay for the colour wire.

There is plenty of room up behind the dash to fit these two relays together with the cable. I'll take some pics of mine at some point and post them up.

I did notice the lights were slightly brighter and less yellow with these relays... they're a far better switch than the cr@ppy job that comes as standard.

Thanks for advice, I think I'll completely redo the headlight wiring at some point and stick the relays in the battery box or under the wing - A new cable direct from battery to lights too, this way I can upgrade the bulbs

In the mean time, found a 25amp toggle switch that fits perfectly. Rated for 25 amps (300w). Has a nice solid feel to it so hopefully it will keep me out of trouble until I get time to rewire everything, the big stoke better not fail me too..

I did mine the other week - stuck it in a waterproof ABS box under the N/S wing

Used the original wiring to the n/s light as the 'switch' side of the relays.

just fitted my buckets seats from csk (killer90). Excellent deal done and the seats are really good, look just like top end corbeaus or recaros but are cheaper.

Early signs are map sensor has fixed engine once and for all. Hand brake cable fitted after losing one of the shoe retaining springs. Spent hours looking for it and driving round for a replacement to no avail. Ian irb offered to help but I eventually found it had only dropped behind the shoe and not sprung across the drive Embarassed

Anyhow the cable is fixed just need to adjust tomorrow and refit prop.

It's been an opportunity to spray some acf50 here and there while I was under the car.

Thumbs Up
