indeed, when the focals are on loud, the alpine sub can't keep up and sounds pants. with rear seats going in, space is a bit tighter

![]() Click image to enlarge It is a Hard top that works for a living. It would restrict forward facing seats a bit but is in total 180mm wide. This was to accomidate the magnets ![]() ![]() |

When I bought my defender a few months ago the dealer fitted a stereo to it for me as part of the deal, it isn't a standard fit LR one and isn't even that decent but it does have a sub out etc.
In one of my other cars I run Focal components with tweets on the dash, mids in the front doors and 2 x 6x9 subs on the back shelf (the boot is sealed), these are all run from an amp. The sound in my defender is really crap compared to the other car... Does the standard defender tweeter and speaker set up have cross overs? Or does all of the sound come out of all of the speakers? (both under the dash and the tweeters on the dash)? I'm wondering if I can improve the sound by running a sub from the 'sub out' on the head unit and somehow intalling some better speakers? Any help greatfully appreciated |

It will all help, the standard tweeters do have an X over but they aren't great when you up the power they just get really loud and sharp and not really the crisp highs you want. A sub would be really good but speaker upgrade helps too.
Sound proofing is worth looking into as that drowns out a lot of the engine and road noise which is to be expected really. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

So as a budget option to improve the quality would you just buy a slim line sub?
On my other head unit I can use a LPF and HPF to split the sound between various speakers but the head unit in the defender just has the tweeters and the speakers under the dash on the same 'FRONT' setting... |

Yes an active sub would be a good idea, not a massive increase in bass but enough to make a difference.

Hello and good morning everyone
I am new to defender ownership so sorry if this is in wrong place etc ( I,ve had it for four weeks one of which it spent at the dealers in many bits ![]() I have a 90 hard top which is ply lined in the rear and has a 18 mm thick mdf bulk head section separating the front and rear parts of the car with a 12"x8" window cut out in the centre so you can see out the back window this I would like to keep as it hides my tools and welder away from prying eyes also the mess ![]() I am in the process of up grading the stereo so my trusty kenwood radio cassette and 6 disc multy changer have come out the Vectra and into the land rover. It also has a parrot mki 9200 which gives me the use of usb sd cards etc to store / play music thru, I see many people have moved speakers around and changed them I would like to put some good wide range speakers in both front doors which I would like to cover over in either veltrim or carpet so they can not be seen (the whole of the interia will be carpeted as time and money permits ) also I would like to fit speakers to the rear as the standard ones are rubbish I would like to fit the speakers in side the rear wheel arches to try and utilise as much of the space in side the car for storage / seating carrying kit etc these would be covered over to keep out of site (council estate upbringing if they cant see it they cant steel it ) if anyone has done this I would be gratefull for any advice / recommendations also it must be able to play the stone roses / cure at a embarrassing levels at traffic lights to annoy kids in saxo,s Thanks martin . |

All of that is possible, just make sure you check measurements in all aspects. It can be a little tight.
Depth especially but mid size speakers are no problems but you won't get 16cm speakers or 6x9's to fit everywhere. On top the wheel arches are fine if you have room there. Barbel Jim has some nice 6x9's there in enclosures. ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Can anyone explain how to download the latest software/firmware from the Kenwood site for a DNX4210DAB? I've looked on the Kenwood site but the instructions aren't in a version of English that I know.
