1987 Defender 90 300 Tdi HT Epsom Green
Wolf rims
Two questions, will 265's fit on wolf rims and will the off set stick the tyres out any further than my standard boost rims as I am looking to fill those arches just that little bit more. If not, are there any alternative fit steel wheels that will fit the bill.

265 will fit, but in relation to filling the arch, I think the wolf will be similar to the boosts, If you'd like to fill the arch there are a wide range of options available, modulars, challenger, zu, etc.

A 265 section tyre is not recommended on a 6.5J wheel rim, 7J min. Andy.

I could be wrong but I thought the max legal size for 6.5 rim was 255. If it's not the legal max. then most people don't recommend more than 255. But I forget which it is 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

As far as I know there is no specific legislation and therefore no such thing as a "legal maximum". Tyre manufacturers will however make recommendations for the minimum (and maximum) rim width for a particular tyre size (as Andy AJS4x4 states above) and there could be issues of roadworthiness and insurance if those recommendations are not conformed with.

That being said there are plenty of people who runs 265s on Wolf rims, and 285s on Boosts without any problems at all.

Wolf rims don't have a better offset - if you want a steel wheel with the offset to fill the arches more then try modulars. John

Defender "Wolf" steel wheels are 6.5" rims with a 20.6mm offset.
Defender Boost alloys are 7" rims with a 33mm offset.

These dimensions mean that the distance from the mounting face of the wheel to the inboard tyre seat will be:-

Wolf - 103mm
Boost - 122mm

And from the mounting face to the outboard tyre seat will be:-

Wolf - 62mm
Boost - 59 mm

(All dimensions rounded to nearest integer value mm).

So, approx 3/4" on the inside and 1/4" on the outside. which means that for the same tyre size, the Wolf rims should provide marginally more chassis clearance and better lock. Although technically it will "fill the arches" better it is debatable whether the 1/4" difference will be perceptible.

For reference, part nos for genuine Wolf rims are ANR5593 for the tube type and ANR4583 for the tubeless type.

Slightly offtopic, but could someone explain the difference between normal-spec steel wheels, modulars and the wolf rims?

Or point a newb in the direction of same info ... I thought modulars were the same as normal spec wheels, and Wolfs equivalent to the HD spec steel wheels you can get factory-fitted? 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

Wolf and HD are effectively the same.

Modulars are an after market wheel with round holes - wider than Wolfs and have a greater offset. John

Or you could go for Tombraider style 8 spoke steels which are similar to the modulars. Thumbs Up
