The reason why many people opt for genuine Wolf steel rims is because at present they are the strongest standard LR rims for Defender, with a load rating of 2200kg per wheel, as compared to 1241 for the standard steel wheel (as used on 90s). I don't know the load rating for Boosts, I'm afraid.

Blindos are stronger still, hence their use on various heavy military specials.

There are non-genuine Wolf-style wheels available which are of vastly reduced quality and load rating. Caveat emptor!

I've seen a few variations on ebay while browsing ... if the time comes I'll bear that in mind. Thanks. 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

Defender "Wolf" steel wheels are 6.5" rims with a 20.6mm offset.
Defender Boost alloys are 7" rims with a 33mm offset.

These dimensions mean that the distance from the mounting face of the wheel to the inboard tyre seat will be:-

Wolf - 103mm
Boost - 122mm

And from the mounting face to the outboard tyre seat will be:-

Wolf - 62mm
Boost - 59 mm

(All dimensions rounded to nearest integer value mm).

So, approx 3/4" on the inside and 1/4" on the outside. which means that for the same tyre size, the Wolf rims should provide marginally more chassis clearance and better lock. Although technically it will "fill the arches" better it is debatable whether the 1/4" difference will be perceptible.

For reference, part nos for genuine Wolf rims are ANR5593 for the tube type and ANR4583 for the tubeless type.

Yes, that's correct for the difference to the tyre seat, but that doesn't give the total picture because a tyre seat closer to the offset does not mean that the tyre sticks out less, it merely means that the tyre wall is puckered in more, the width of the tyre will remain broadly the same - but the walls of the tyre will be distorted on the narrower rim - hope that makes sense - not easy to explain! In simple terms :-

Boost et33 7" wide
Modular et08 7" wide
Wolf et20.6 6.5" wide
thus :-
Modular sticks out 1" more than a boost, and
wolf offset sticks out 12.4mm or 1/2" more than boost

Assuming tyre width is the same mounted on different rims in simplistic terms the tyre width will remain the same - but the narrower rims will just give an inferior tyre wall profile

Except that you really won't notice the difference when there's only 1/2" difference in rim width.

yes agreed,

I can though just tell the difference in offset just by looking, but many people wouldn't.

What it does show though is that you can get a better steering lock with Wolfs than Boosts Thumbs Up

Heh, I asked the dealer who sold us ours that very question and he said there was no difference; I thought there would be. What's the improvement in the turning circle? 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

Nothing, unless you wind the steering stops in a bit.

The narrower rims and slightly wider offset mean you can increase the distance the wheels turn in without hitting the radius arms.

Enough to notice the difference! Thumbs Up A half inch greater offset, plus 1/2" less in rim width adds up. Tyre width remains more or less the same, it's the tyre wall profile that changes.

My wolfs recently purchased from BPman tubeless and painted in limestone . ( roof to match ) fitted to new MTRs 235/85 . Great on road manners with no turning circle difference .

It's the same benefit you'd get if you fitted 19mm (3/4") spacers with Boosts - although of course you can't in fact get spacers that thin.

Does anybody have any good photo's of a Defender on Wolfs with 265/75/16's fitted please?

I know it's not recommended but many have done it without issue. The reason I ask is that I have a brand new set of Wolfs on 7.50's and am thinking of swopping over my 265 STT's - have tried the search function but pics have eluded me with tyres in this size on wolfs

Many thanks.

FYI,Boosts are only about 900kg give or take a few,I only know coz I just fitted some and it's stamped on the back. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.
