Hi Russ,

Can I ask what indie was that? Was it the one in Hamworthy? Just interested for future reference, think I'm going to give the indie on Alder Hills a try next time I need anything.

Thought the removal of the manifold had gone too smoothly. Tonight I removed the manifold studs to find one had snapped off which explains the warped manifold issue.

Just ordered the left hand drill bits and stud removers. Fingers crossed the rest of the procedure is as straight forward Thumbs Up 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

My advice would be to screw the broken stud in, then re-tap the thread as far as you can, then extract the broken stud.

I learnt this the hard way on mine. I think the Ali thread gets damaged with the heat and stud doesn't want to pass through without a clean up first.

Ps I would change all studs to new studs, even if you are not upgrading them Thumbs Up

If you do use the Alder Hills place can you provide feedback? Noticed them myself when getting the 'screen changed nearby, and it's always useful to know for future reference.
Thanks! Thumbs Up

^^^

No worries Blackwolf. Think where you had your screen done were the same outfit that did my Landyglass. I did speak to the guy in the independant and it seems on the face of it a small, clean and effective set up. It'll be a while for me as I have just had a free service done by Westovers and I don't cover the mileage to warrant servicing each year.

Unless I experience problems that I can't or haven't the time to sort myself. Whistle If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Hasn't gone to plan ! Stud has been a bittch to extract. Looks like I'm going to have to drill out what's left. Have jut ordered a helicoill thread repair kit.

New Alisport manifold, longer rolled studs and new gaskets arrived just need to get what's left of the old stud removed Sad 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Just got mine back after manifold leaking.
Took the manifold to local engineering company who skimmed it back nice and flat for £40+vat.
They also drilled out a couple of broken studs & helicoiled them.
Also fitted Alive EGR blanking kit whilst at it.
All back running now.
See how long it lasts.

Good luck, although it is said once its warped and skimmed it should be ok in the future. Encouraging the Engineering Co used helicoils, it will be the first time I've used them.

Going to try and get the last bit of the stud out today, looks like its going to have to be careful use of the dremmel Confused 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Helicoil in, new manifold, studs and gasket on. Manifold torqued to slightly more than specified..........but it's Still squealing on road test. Stripped down again, re tightened manifold, checked down pipe studs, can't see anything amiss.

Open to suggestions 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Mine warped on me, it had snapped off two studs at the front and one at the rear. I managed to get the end of the one at the back, the two at the front caused a real headache, I drilled the holes out, retapped and refitted the manifold without any skimming. When I took mine off it was fitted with two manifold gaskets, I left them on when I refitted it eighteen months ago and it took untill about a month ago to squeal again, turned out it was just one stud at the front had worked loose, retightened and alls fine.
Long and short, try two manifold gaskets, more chance of taking up any slight imperfections in the mating faces.

I though the same when I took mine off that it had two gaskets. Turned out the OEM is two thin metal strips pressed together. When you take the manifold off the two pieces can separate giving the impression of two gaskets !

May have to take it all back off and use gum gum and the gasket 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top
