Ericvv,

As Landy Andy says, you will have a two-pinion diff, or as we call it, a "short lived" diff in the front!

The good news is that when it fails you have the perfect excuse to fit an Ashcroft ATB in there, since it is cheaper than a replacement exchange diff from Landrover, and, unlike the LR diff, will be properly built and set up by people who care!

Incidentally LR doesn't supply replacement 2-pinion front diffs for 110 and 130 vehicles now, only 4-pinion.

Thanks, not really comforting news Shocked Shocked

But, one last attempt, are we sure that this is correct. I have read on a forum a while ago that it were only 90s who had a 2-pinion front diff, while 110/130s always had the 4-pinion.
I don't have the link to that anymore, so can anyone confirm that this is correct, or is it definitely a 2-pinion in all 90/110/130 pre 2010 Derenders?
Eric

EDIT: I was clearly wrong. Below is the link to the other discussion. Seems all very confusing, but my front diff indeed seems a 2-pinion.

Now, here is the 65.000 dollar question...... I have one more year of extended warranty ahead of me. Wink How do I improve this situation during that year? Whistle

Well, if it is covered by the warranty and if were to break, then you'd get a new 4-pinion diff (or at least a reconditioned one) since LR won't supply 2-pinion diffs to 110s or 130s.

In the unlikely event that it were to develop an oil leak which you didn't notice, it would probably fail .....

.... about two weeks after the end of the warranty! Rolling with laughter

I would do nothing except start saving a few pennies (actually about 80,000 pennies) in anticipation of the fitment of the ATB. Not a $65,000 question, more an £800 question.

Remember that more 2-pinion diffs haven't failed than have failed.

Ask for your build sheet and that will show you beyond doubt.

Ericvv, my 2007 110 DC definitely had a 2-pinion diff (you will have seen the photos in the thread you linked to, although by that time it was actually about a 1.4 pinion diff with fragments!).

If you want to PM me your VIN number I should be able to look up your build spec on Microcat and confirm, however unless your vehicle was built to special order it will have a 2-pinion diff.

Remember they don't all break, they are just rather more likely to than the 4-pinion version.

My front diff finally gave up on road, as I was driving the last mile or so home from work on a very wet evening. It was fortunate it was wet since it made the road marginally more slippery - it is very unlikely that I would have been able to complete the journey otherwise.

Driving on tarmac with a solid front axle makes the steering extremely interesting and rather ineffective! Not an experience I wish to repeat if I can help it.
