So I've three spare leads on the Pioneer loom - a light green which says it has to connect to 'parking brake' ? ... a purple/white which wants to connect to 'reverse-gear signal input' and a black/yellow which wants to connect to 'mute' ... any ideas if these are needed or where they might go ?

They'd only be needed if you want to make use of the functions that they relate too. The 'reverse gear signal input' will be for a reversing camera and the 'mute' will clearly be if you are using some sort of fixed hands free system. I'd hazard a guess that the 'parking brake' connection is to do with watching video and only allowing it when you've stopped.

'P.cont' will be a permanent live feed so you can use it with the ignition off and probably enable it to keep radio pre-sets. Darren

What speakers are they? Are they a direct replacement or was cutting required?

Hi - they are Kenwood KFC-E1064's ... got them from justkenwood.co.uk

They are a direct fit - although you will need to cut/shape/Dremel the back lip to the speaker card to fit the retaining clips for the new, slimmer screws they supply ... took about 5 mins once I'd carefully done the first one !

I also got some KFC-ST30 tweeters and a KSC-SW01 active subwoofer to fit next Wink

Thanks Darren - I'd sort of figured what they were - was really asking if there is something specific on the Defender loom to connect them to ? ... am thinking of getting a reversing camera so that would get hooked up - what would the parking brake connect to ?

cheers

Either the switch on the handbrake or the feed to the brake light on the dash. I think the latter will be more difficult though, as it'll be integrated into the instrument pack. Darren

P.CONT - (normally Blue) is for turning on an Amplifier or as LRA say's Amplifier however it is normally used for. It's pretty much a switch in effect and you simply extend this wire.
REVERSE (can't remember colour but all labelled) Don't connect this unless you are actually fitting a reverse camera. I would then look at it.
PARK SW - (Again can't remember colour) But to make life easier for you and so you can use your video features all the time. Simply earth it anywhere that has a good earth I.E. A chassis bolt or structural fixing so no where on the Alu body. You can wire it in the the handbrake switch but your making work for yourself. Just don't play video related media whilst driving as it's illegal. Rolling Eyes No Guts, No Glory.

I thought this too as it's a 2DIN HU with a 1DIN slot. As he saidd I assumed he would enlarge it. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

Next job to splice in the tweeters ... guess the best place is to cut into the LR>ISO loom ?

Did you buy component speakers?? If you did you will have 4 crossovers (2 per side/speaker) which enable you to fit the supplied tweeters, not sure how you would correctly fit tweeters without crossovers as crossovers divide the signal from the H/U into low frequency (woofers) and high frequency (tweeters).
Of course anything is do-able,but would have thought your tweeters gonna take a beating from the low range frequency.

They aren't components AFAIK.... Mine are currently connected to the standard LR loom. Although not taking the full power they can handle they work well. Because they are so powerful also and high quality it doesn't worry me really running without a x over. The only way other than that would be to Amp them (not sure I would want that because they'd be so loud) and then you could use the x' over's as the power output will be there and take the signals and hardwire them from the original tweeter feed.
All depends on what power they are too but I don't really see the point in screamingly high power on high frequency music. All it will do is make you want to turn it down because it's so loud and pretty much damage your hearing I would imagine if you went to OTT with it.
I have to use mine in this way for now anyway as the HU power output isn't enough to power them anyway. Only get a whisper out of them. No Guts, No Glory.

All seems to work - hooked up iPhone to usb to play some music and FM aerial works - need to put DAB aerial on screen and try that too ... only works with ignition on though ?

I quite like the look of that, and it has DAB. Still waiting for an Alpine with 3 4v preouts. Do you have a modle number at all and I can look up specs?
