the thinner shaft part of the tool allows you to get to the nuts more easily .. make life easier

Not sure if you want the same tool from a different supplier, but there's one here...

thanks for that.
and as I though 9/16. that leads me to think my spanners aren't too great as I've slightly rounded one of my bolt heads using a 9/16? (must get tool and some nice shiney new nuts / bolts). thanks |

I just bought a Professional Socket Set from Halfords, they seem to get great reviews. Includes a set of spanners too...although metric, so may not be ideal for the prop shaft nuts..;-(

I use one of these:-
Snap on universal socket. Works a treat, but isn't the cheapest solution. Strictly speaking the fastener is 3/8" UNF and the head size is 9/16" AF (which is close to, but not the same as, 14mm). |

Buy a genuine Japanese Koken one rather than the Britpart copy.
Like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380395342420 (3/8" drive) Or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160701865951 (1/2" drive) ![]() ![]() |

simon,
thanks for the suggestion re the halford kit - gone one and great. martin (or anyone else).... can you confirm that buying one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160701865951 is worth it. ie is it far better than simply trying to use an ordinary socket set such as the halfords pro set as above.? many thanks. |

Have to admit, when I was racing a few years back I was desperate to get hold of a certain socket size that I didn't have (can't remember what size) and the only option was Halfords.
There was a special offer on their 170 (I think) Pro socket set. It was so cheap I bought it. I didn't think it would last too long. The ratchets didn't last too long on the drives apart from the 1/2" is still going strong, but the sockets (and indeed the spanners) lasted, in fact, I still use them today and are still like new. They lasted longer than the "Snap-Off" ones I had. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

my father has a slight obsession with tools... polishes his spanners from time to time etc...
has a full snap on kit, and i mean everything there is, whenever the snap on man is around he is shocked at what we have... does come in handy best kit ive ever used, ratchet screw driver must be 25 years old and still going, i think everyone should own a snap on ratchet or 2, and a socket set... out of the 8 ratchets we have, 1 has only ever failed (after about 10 years of work), and it got serviced and came back like new, the 3 we bought last year just had a good workout replacing a lot of bits on a td5 last year |

Weird how peoples perceptions are different. I didn't get on with Snap On and in the Paddock, it was nick named Snap Off due to the amount of failed ratchets that people where getting.
I use Teng for ratchets and they haven't let me down (yet). Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
