Landyman,
Can't really advise on availability of 'plug and play' trailer wiring. Answer probably lies in diagrams but don't have the time to look on your behalf at the moment, sorry! Nevertheless can assist with diagrams. PM sent. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I fitted genuine LR 12N & 12S
The 12N just plugs into the connector under the wheelarch, you need to remove the plastic liner, just two screws. The 12N wiring also incorporates another connector which in turn plugs into the 12S loom this is for fog or reverse lights (i cant remember which). The 12S loom is adjustable for 90, 110 or 130 models. The loom is 'telescopic' you pull it out to the correct length for the vehicle. The short bit of the 12S loom runs under the wheelarch to connect to the connector on the 12N loom. The rest of the loom has to be run under the vehicle up into the battery box. This is where you fit the relay and connect to the battery. There is a grommet in the battery box, so no holes need to be drilled. From here a single wire comes from the battery box, under the dash board and up to a switch to the left of the radio. You need to remove the radio, pop the switch out to get to one of the wires (white/green) and scotch-lock on the single wire. This is for ignition sense. LR want you to drill a hole for this wire to exit the battery box, what I did was to run the wire out of a spare hole and extend the wire so it would reach. All make sense? The genuine LR kit does come with instructions. It is of the new type which only has one relay. This is fine for newer caravans, 96ish onwards I think. Older caravans required a 'split charge relay' to charge the battery and a second relay which would provide power for the fridge. With modern alternators, a split charge relay is not needed, so the relay fitted in the LRs battery box is actually for the fridge. The charging system for the caravan battery is incorporated in the caravan electrics. It takes its feed from the unswitched 12 supply from the LR, via a relay, which is controlled via the fridge feed. Blimey, I think I have finished. There is no great advantage buying a genuine LR 12S over an aftermarket one other than it is simpler to connect to the reverse light by simply plugging into the connector on the 12N loom. Just make sure the aftermarket loom is long enough for the LR. The genuine 12N is worth the money as it is so simple to fit, just plug it in. |

Well. Even I can manage that. great bit of information, thanks for the trouble. will get a 12s kit and start crawling about underneath. let you know when I,m done. If you don't hear back you 'll know I've crisped the wiring and too embarassed to admit it. 1981 series 3 swb gone 1986 v8 110 station wagon current 2009 puma 110 xs utility station wagon latest addition |

Some useful info there.
I'm just about to tackle this job. Do you have a part number for the correct 12S loom? I contacted LR and they gave me two numbers. STC8874 and LR005921, but they didn't know which was the correct one. Aparently there were less parts with the first number, so that would seem to fit with your comments re less relays etc. thanks, Pete |

I think LR005921 is the correct one.
The other one seems to be very similar but I wonder whether it was for an older variant (Tdi?) as it is often advertised as "Defender or Discovery 1" see ebay One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |
