Went to 80's festival in Cookham. All 4x4 were parked in special field with long grass.
Left early to avoid 4000 other cars leaving through one gate. Last act was Tony Hadley, a lot of people were leaving then.... Great day out ![]() |

Got round to replacing a UJ on the rear propshaft. That one has lasted about 18months, not too bad for an "el-cheapo", especially one without a grease nipple. Two caps were still all still full of grease whereas the other two were as dry as a bone and giving movement in the wrong direction.
Eventually found the cause of that annoying rattle I've suffered for months. It turned out to be the spring retainer on the nearside rear. I have 130 assister springs inside the main springs and the smaller springs sit on a dish that is held off the bottom base plate by spacers and by doing so allow the use of the original main spring retainer. The retainer is just a strip of steel 30mm wide with holes that match up with holes on the base plate. This strip had bent out of shape and was just rattling about and driving me bonkers. Adjusted the hand brake at the drum after a quick inspection of the shoes and ended up going to the rescue of a mate with a Disco1 that he couldn't start. It turned out to be the ignition switch, not the electrical side but the lock barrel. The key would go in, turn through positions 1 and 2 but not go that bit further to the start position that springs back when you let the key go. My old Disco2 had a similar problem as has my 110, it usually begins with sporadic difficulty in getting the key to turn in the lock then one day you just won't be able to turn it at all. It will be more noticable with a well used key and the reason is that the key will start to wear and will not operate all the tumblers in the lock properly. My 110 came with 2 sets of keys, one set of which were like new so I got a copy made off that one and use the copy and touch wood never had a problem since. With my mates Disco I did the same as my old Disco2, I took out the lock barrel and took out some of the tumblers, put it all back together and away it went! All fine and dandy, apart from the fact that I couldn't turn the damned ignition off position 1 ![]() |

got up early to a twiddly thumbs morning, so I peeled of the defender sticker from the rear panel and fitted some 3d DEFENDER letters that match the Bonnet LAND ROVER that I purchesed about 12 months ago from B.O.Bs . Read a thread on here about this before that has inspired me, I found my sticker just peeled off after lifting 1 corner with a craft knife so no need for a hot air gun or hair drier. Very happy with the result much more up market. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy Last edited by LR90XS2011 on 19th May 2013 3:23pm. Edited 1 time in total |
