10 " subs. They are in sealed enclosures. Wanted the smallest I could which was the decider in the choice of sub. Would have had a pair of focals to match everything else but they are designed for ported enclosures, and are deeper. Prefer sealed subs as more punchy, and you don't get that bluring/farty bass. Oh yes you can feel the bass a mile down the road, that mono amp would happilly run another pair if I wanted !!! Those amps are overkill and a total extravergance but the SQ is unbelievable !
![]() Dynamat stops me looking too much of a Chav though, it contains so much sound inside ![]() Designed the box to be easy in and out. Made 2 brackets that riveted to bulkhead, then a couple of self tappers hold it in situ. 2 wire's out the amp and out it pops! ![]() |

Do you have one of those Vibe quick release connector type things then? Or something you made yourself?

No Quick release. The amps use good old fashioned gold Allen bolts. Soldered up the wires going into connector, Simples

I get what you've done.
![]() ![]() They often never even set it up right and just sounds like air movement. Oh and then their car catces fire though improper wiring. ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Ultimately Steve its all down to personal taste. We all have a different ear and you have to build a system to suit you. Sometimes premium is not always better, but invariably it is. Setting it up correctly is the secret. The dynamat is one of the most important upgrades with our vehicles. Not just to keep noise out, but in reality it improves the acoustics beyond recognition. I find you have to play around a bit too. I should have gone with my instinct in the first place and just brought the Focals. Would have saved alot of time. ![]() ![]() |

Very true. My issue is that I use the rear for hay bales practically very week so pulling subs out that often would be a chore and no doubt may cause damage anyway and in the time in-between the dogs are in there and need the rooms so again not going to work. I am quite happy with my single sub though but I also agree that Dynamatting is a good idea I need to do that in time. As you say a step at a time you can really concentrate then and get things right and perfected first time. Then when finally completed you can step back and enjoy.

Be nice if you get it perfect first time. I thought that would happen with the 6x9's but it just started me off !!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh and yeah I not too sure if the dog appreciates the subs..... But they are supposed to be like their owners, so she's a proper bass head. Big Fish, Little Fish, Aluminium Box ![]() |

Same with me I usually use around the 12 mark all the time. And that is in a 0 - 35 range. ![]() ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Steve, I could use some advise please on an amp/sub/speakers install, this is my first time ever when it comes down to amps and ICE so be gentle with me
![]() I recently acquired an amp from "Landlord" (another member here) it is a Kenwood KAC 849, so for that I blindly went in search for a subwoofer ![]() I then ordered a pair of these for the front speakers : Kenwood kfc-e1064, after seeing you recommended them to another chap here ![]() I already have, a pair of kenwood kfc-6979ie 6x9 3 way speakers which are also new old stock. All of this will be coming off my headunit which is one of these http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/produ...-DAB4551U/ I have trawled the web looking for hints, tips and advise on whether this kit will match and seeing as some of the stuff is discontinued I am struggling to find answers. The sub is brand new old stock, the radio is fairly new as its been in my 90 for the past year, front speakers obviously brand new, the 6x9's are in perfect condition and the amp looks good (tho' not tested) What I would like to know from an expert ![]() Thanks for any advise you can offer and sorry for all the links, but they will give you better info than I could. Cheers Mike ![]() Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

Hi Mike,
Sorry for the later reply I somehow missed your post. ![]() RMS Wattage = Constant power input or output. Peak = The peak wattage either the Amp output or the Sub input. The jist is the Amp & Sub power ratings needs to more or less match if it's a single mono Amp. Also the correct prescribed fuse rating for the Primary power feed is also critical for safety's sake. It's difficult for me to advise without having the actual details in-front of me what is suitable. I notice you are not too far from myself a neighbouring county in fact so if you like I could take a look or perhaps give you a hand if you wanted? Feel free to drop me a "PM" if you'd like any further help / advice. Steve ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply, I just re-read my post and the one thing I forgot to include was any spec. on the amp, here is a pdf, http://manual.kenwood.com/files/B64-1969-00.pdf which will give all the req info.
Many thanks for your offer of assistance, I really appreciate it, the last thing I would want to do is impose on your time other than forum time ![]() I am planning on installing everything in the next couple of days and it will be done in stages as I have to build the sub into a box I already have in the back. Okay, Had a look at the details and the Sub is actually higher power rated than the Amp which isn't too much of a problem although you my find you need to adjust the settings on the Amp a little to compensate. Also I assume you were intending to use the Amp solely to power the Sub? As ideally the 6x9's should be Amped too but you would need another lower rated Amp to do this as running Kenwood 6x9's is a bit much for a HU as it only has 4x 50w outputs as a rule and will make it run very hot.
Also where were you thinking of fitting your speakers and kit in relation to the Defender? ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |
