Ok so Friday morning decided to install the new stereo and speakers.
Took the old one out easily. Thought should be wearing gloves as its cold. Poked around with the screwdriver to undo tabs of old cage. Grabbed old cage and used screwdriver to push cage to make it come out. Slipped and sliced my finger open! One of those deep cuts that don't start bleeding for a while!!! So back in for plaster and thin gloves! I ordered a cage as I didn't know that the unit came with one! So looked at them both, the one with the unit was slightly shorter. So I thought use the other as it will have more support. So got the mic cable, aux cable and USB cable in to where I wanted them to come out. Unclipped the bezel from the unit, slip the stereo in. Click seated well. Tried to put the bezel on. Guess what no fit, cage too deep. So out with the new cage and install the one that came with the stereo. Wouldn't mind but the USB plug on the end of the lead was a tight fit. Swapped over cages, fitted very well. Powered on and all worked.. Then changed the speakers over, easy enough, all went reasonably well. Turned it all back on and thought lets listen to he Ramones as they are good base, guess where the cd is, yes in the old unit... So tried another CD. Sounds good, think i may need a sub.... But where to put as i normally have the high lift under the seat Old out ![]() Click image to enlarge New in.. ![]() Click image to enlarge Seems to change colour a lot, i know you can make it stop, must RTFM. ![]() Click image to enlarge New speakers, just fitted in original screw holes, with a bit of persuasion. ![]() Click image to enlarge Picture not great, but sound is better than original. Just downloaded a load of songs to USB stick to test as well. will also try the ipod on Apple cable rather than Kenwood version to see if it works. 110XS CSW TD5. |

Chocolate - looks good! I have a Kenwood BT92SD waiting to be installed, which looks virtually the same as yours, but has slightly different functionality. Can I ask how you routed the mic cable and the aux. USB socket? I was envisioning having to take the whole dash top off to be able to do it. Have you managed it without taking the dash to bits? 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Hi Green Machine,
I have routed them to come out next to the dash, so they just go under where the vents are and come out in the small gap between the dash and plastic vent tray. I used some stiff cable to thread it through. The aux and microphone go in to the stereo area, the USB is connected to the stereo so needed to be threaded the other way. Mic works, but probably won't use it for phone as apparently it echoes when on the phone. I just unscrewed the bottom as this gave enough movement. I was planning on running to the cubby box, but as i have ordered a under cubby safe, thought i would wait and see how I use the stereo. 110XS CSW TD5. |

Here's a photo of where they come out. This way they can be pushed back in and hidden.

Thanks for the info and pics! That will help me when doing mine, although I think I'm going to run the mic up the A-pillar so that it's close to your mouth and away from other noisy things! (Relatively speaking!) 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

That may be a much better position. I use a headset which no believes me when I say I am in my car! I have also been caught out when on the phone to someone using handsfree in a car. They didn't tell me I was hands free to them ![]() ![]() |

Chocolate - It's easy done with that (The handsfree convo)
![]() ![]() G-M - have you ever thought about using the rear view mirror top to mount the mic? ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

I hadn't thought about that actually Steve, but still think the A pillar is probably the answer. Easy to route to there as well, just take the plastic A pillar trim off and sorted, rather than having to mess about under the headlining. I need to extend my CL antenna as well, so can do both at the same time. Just trying to find the time to do it at the moment! Bought the HU before Christmas and still not fitted! 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Yep, Sounds the perfect idea to me. It's only a couple of screws literally.

Just be aware of wind noise, ie you won't be able to have your window open !!! Got mine by the rear view mirror, easy to poke wire under head lining ![]() |

Funny we were talking about the A pillar the other day that's where I have fitted mine now. Fitted this little lot today Kenwood BT-300 (Still needs some tidying up and neat cable routing):
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Did think about using the mirror as I was doing it but there was no real neat way to get the cable down to it and would have been a right eyesore. Would have been a nice flat surface to mount onto though. Tested the sound quality on the top of the A pillar and there was no problem at all clear as crystal. The BT-300 does support SMS (Text message) too but my HU doesn't support it as it is getting on a bit now 6 years old now I think. It does have an accessible phonebook 3 presets and manual number entry. And in case you were wondering also BT music streaming and the quality is excellent with that. You can skip tracks via BT on the HU but not access or directly see artwork or names as they are designed for wired direct control. All the same if you like the idea of BT music streaming it works very very well better than I thought actually. Steve ![]() β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°πͺ |

Acquired these
![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Been rude not to fit them. Sub Box ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge 6" wide overall. Lifted it off the floor so as to protect MDF from fluids. Just waiting for the grills to arrive. That's it though total overkill in a Landrover. ![]() |
