There's a thread on this somewhere. It is quite common but is also a fault - get the dealer to change it.
My front screen had a strip right in front of my face that wasn't working. The dealer "did some tests" and couldn't demonstrate the issue (bear in mind it was minus 3 outside - breathing over the windscreen would have done it ) Only way to prove it then was to take these photos to show them that I hadn't made it up. The problem for the rear heated glass is the 3rd stop tail rubber.
probably it release rubber solvent that "eat" the heated element Dealer changed me the rear windows two times. Now I cutted (below) the rubber and make same sockets (where are 90° tracks curves) for avoid contacts from the heating tracks and the rubber. Now the problem seems solved... it's the high level stop light the cover this rubs on the element and cuts through it,when you have had it replaced, cover the elements with insulating tape to stop it happening again 2.4 90 XS

remove the high level brake light cover, look for rubbing marks on the heating elements,if you can see were the heater wires are broken(worn through)you need a heated window repair kit,you mask off either side of the 'break'with the masking tape supplied in the kit, then with the solution in the bottle(looks like clear nail varnish)paint on over the break to all damaged areas, leave to dry, remove the masking tape, then cover the break areas with insulation tape to stop it happening again. I hope you can understand. 2.4 90 XS 1968 1/32 scale Britains 109 Pick up. |

I explained to my compatriot that is the central stop lamp rubber (5) (in my case) that probably, release solvent. this solvent had "vanished" the heater elements. I cut and modified the rubber. Now the heater elements do not "touch" the rubber and after 3 rear screen this one " continue" to work fine Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |
