England 1998 Defender 90 Td5 SW Auto Oslo Blue
Now I'm not working (lady of leisure for a short while having taken voluntary redundancy) work can now start in ernest to finish the last of the jobs and bits buying for our Australia trip (only a year to go now). Not working means its easier to have the 90 'off-the-road' as I'm not needing to commute to York 5 days a week.

Dave's old ARB lockers went away to Crown Diffs for refurb last week and should be back in good fettle within the next couple of weeks. So hoping to get them fitted into the 90 by end of the month. We need to upgrade the axles but not too spendy as we have some of the Ashcrofts bits already and just the last couple to buy.

Got 3 Sealey 10l water containers with taps from a tool shop on the net earlier in the week but after trying them in the 90 found they were too big for where we want them to go on top of the wheel arch box. We had really wanted them to sit under the lip of the body capping but they were just too tall. Well, after a bit of thunking my other half decided it might be possible to melt them into submission - ie.reshaping the top corner at one side. A call to our friendly chemist / plastics specialist (Brendan!) confirmed that hot water about boiling point should do the job. So out with a pan of boiling water, and bendable plastic the result. So now 3 containers that all sit neatly on the wheel box, under the capping.... Yey! They do look as if they've been squashed them in transit and although we'll lost a little bit of capacity they now work!

Got a list of other items still to get, including spare wheel carrier, a pair of Maxtrax, ground anchor, window guards and tools/spares boxes so the battle commences to have it all done for June for our trip to the South West! Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

If you fancy a cuppa on your way down let me know. We are 8 miles from J25 of the M5 or 3 miles off the A303.

Had a good look round and some of them are crazy money Shocked

As I am getting a red 90 and it will adopt the name from the old 110 whose last three letters were LCY, Lucy, I went for ....... R90LCY Thumbs Up

£250 from DVLA including tax and transfer fee. Very easy purchase and documents arrived within four days plus I have a full year to put it on a vehicle.

Some of the ..13... plates are crazy money, WC13LCY was £1,000 Shocked

Ok then!

Before modification the back of the bottles were the same basic shape as the fronts - like this -

After modification the back of the bottle has a crease in it

So now they sit under the body capping/join of tub and sides like this... (sorry about poor pics - taken on the iPad in the dark, no flash, just the roof light and head torch for lighting!

and fit more neatly on the seat box, tucked underneath at the back with just the tap over-hanging at the front - before it was about 2 inches overhang which was no good as my fridge sits on that side of the tub floor and there wasn't enough of a gap. We wanted the tap to just fit nicely into the gap between the fridge and the wheel box... the fridge not fixed in at the mo so we put in to try it this afternoon. With the fridge in place and the modified bottle you can just about turn the tap if you put your hand down the side of the fridge. Anyway we were thinking of putting a pipe into the tap fitting, with the tap on the end of the pipe - to make it easier to use for washing / washing up water. Drinking water will probably go on the other wheel box, to be more accessible.
