I usually steer round rocks rather than try to push them out of the way. That said I have bent three track rods. One from running over a dead wombat.

Underbody Protection is a big no-no here because the spinnefex builds up under them and catches fire.

Here in Cyprus we have the same spinifex type scrub along with other types of bush grass, and with a average highest temperature of over 10 Degrees C more than the Melbourne area I have never seen a fire due to build up- but then again, after a days driving we always check undersides of the vehicles (everyone should be checking for bumps/ leaks etc anyway).

As I mentioned above..... it isn't about those rocks etc you see, it is for the one that is hidden (Mud/ water/ scrub). All you have to do is hit the diff pan and that is the front diff out of action- including the time it takes to remove the prop and drive shafts leaving you with '1 wheel drive' for the rest of the trip- which could also result in either abandoning an expedition at an early stage, having to get spares sent out to location (can be V expensive) or spending 2 days to traverse terrain that should only take 2 hours.

After doing a recovery job for 6 months in Belize sometimes we were driving for hours into the jungle to recover Defenders with snapped steering rods and bashed diffs......... All could have been avoided by spending the same price on under body protection as duel for the recovery truck to get there

Qt diff guard is 5mm? thick..... that means you lose 5mm of clearance. If something is missing my diff pan by 5mm I would rather have the protection and take the odd scrape.

I'd have to agree with that comment too. They also add a flatter more "slider" effect area to the bottom of the diff than not having a guard at all. The diff with no protection would be more blunt so would tend to be smacked with more force. Also a new replacement for a damaged guard would cost a lot less than having to replace a damaged diff or axle. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
