flatdog do good prices on mantec. their steering guard is £130 on eblag i've got the southdown rock sliders on my 300; back in the day they were called jackable sills, and have and excellent rubber moulding that links the guard into the spats. tiz a pity they don't still make them |

Hi Brendan, you are correct wrt to Southdown stuff. it is bloody good and Dave pretty much pioneered the kits and designs you see about now days. i was lucky to live near him so getting stuff from him when he made it was a no brainer.
i also have a 110 tank guard + a 90 tank guard! all good bits of kit. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Agree that something like the Southdown full axle guard is the way I'd go.
I think it was Southdown that also pioneered the rear fuel tank guard that had an integrated but removeble tow hitch. Always thought that was a smart solution. I'd check the figures 1st but always thought that a proper hardened ali alloy was far better than steel for these things. Checks the weights of the products as it's quite a deal to be hanging off the bottom of the vehicle. The other considerations for me are: * the ease of getting to maintenance/service items * the ease of fitting/removing * whether they require additional drilling/mounts or pick up off existing * Flush fitting or exposed bolt heads - the latter being prone to damage |

I agree, it's well worth keeping an eye open for decent s/h Southdown gear. Steve.

Southdown has stopped making protection gear.
Whether Allmakes are actively making Southdown brand gear I do not know. Asfir is Israeli equipment and is available in the UK. Rasta another Israeli company products are available in Europe but both brands are what some people might consider to be expensive. Brendan |

I'd be inclined to phone QT direct if you decide to buy and see if they'll do a deal

QT are a good choice and last well. In my personal opinion, steering guards are more for looks than benefit. They can get caught up on rocks and stumps, and can catch when being pulled out backwards. I've personally found fitting HD drag link and track rod bars a better option, and for full belt and braces a track rod guard as suggested above. |
