Until I read this and other similar threads I was satisfied with the standard unit in my DC, but now I have the urge to upgrade!

Could someone be kind enough to advise me if a unit such as the Kenwood KDC-6051U (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/kdc-6051u-car-radio) is plug and play with the existing connector or do I need one of these adaptors as well (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car_radio_adaptors.aspx?id=139)?

I assume that I would need a single DIN mounting cage (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/car-audio.asp...sleeve-new).

Thanks!

Black Wolf - Because the Defender standard radio uses DIN plugs at the rear I HIGHLY doubt you'll need any adaptor at all it should simply be plug and play. With the single DIN cage yes ideally you do need it (although I used mine for ages without) It keeps it secure so no risk of it coming out or loose and also added theft protection also. I fitted mine earlier this year. Worthwhile doing. Be sure to get some Kenwood radio removal keys also otherwise once it's in you won't be able to get it out again Wink ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

It will also give you better options and functionality for any other add ons you may plan in the future too. Which the LR unit just isn't capable of. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

2006 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Santorini Black
Hi Steve

So ordered 2 pairs of the 1064 speakers and an active sub from justkenwood Very Happy

Do you know how the sub will connect to the back of a Puma OEM head unit ?

I'm guessing it will need a power feed to it ... thinking of mounting it on the back of the cubby box in my TD5 ... where is the best place/lead/colour to wire it in to ?

Also if I decide to get some tweeters for the dash, can these be easily wired in or will I need some form of crossover unit ?
thanks

Jon

If it's the active Kenwood sub I am thinking of then I think it has RCA input for HU's capable of this and also speaker level too. I don't have one myself so i don't know a great deal however there are members on here that actually have one. Matt, ZeDefender does I think They can then tell you the exact feature it has Thumbs Up Also with the new speakers don't be affraid to drill the new holes for the speakers to fit in square with the supplied clips Thumbs Up ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

I have fitted an Alpine head unit with bluetooth and ipod connectivity etc from my old disco to the 90 and i would like to improve the sound quality so i can listen to a reasonable volume and depth without distortion. I am therefore considering an active sub so have two quick questions:

Is there a significant difference between the Kenwood active sub and the focal unit?
Does the Kenwood active sub fit under the seat in an puma xs90 or it there somewhere else to fit?

Thanks in advance Darren

1) It's difficult to say with out hearing both however I would consider comparing the Peak and RMS power of both brands. Each to their own on brand really however I have heard the Kenwood does the job just perfect and also believe it's one of the more powerful ones for it's size.

2) Under the actual seat base - no. However in the seat box it will. On the bulkhead (If you have one) or maybe on the back / underneath or maybe inside the cubby box? (again if you have one)

Steve
