I have a 110 USW, and (for my needs) the rear end is too stiff. Ride is OK when fully loaded, but for the vast majority of the time I don't carry that much gear (kayaks, mountain bikes etc). SWMBO complains about the "choppy ride"...
So...my question is... Is the best way to soften the rear end to put lower grade springs in? MK posted this table some time ago...but I'm not really sure what to make of it!  Click image to enlarge This has raised a few questions: 1. From the research I have seen, it appears as though the springs are colour-coded in some way. So I assume I can find the spec of the springs on my 110, and then get one "grade" lower? 2. Are they easy to fit? 3. I'll use LR springs (rather than terrafiorma etc) because I want the vehicle to be as standard as it can be whilst under warranty (and so as not to need to notify my insurance). Is yours a post or pre 2011 model? Previous to this date they were (apparently) fitted with purple/brown progressive springs and afterwards with white/green/green springs - which my mate, who has had both, reports are a far better ride on the utility wagon
CSW RHD 110 7 Seat (3050kg) RKB500300 White/green/green 422.96mm RHD 110 Utility RKB101111 Purple/Brown 409.96mm The info from LR is not clear but if you are on brown/purples then some white/green/greens may improve the ride. If you asre already on W/G/G then options are probably aftermarket only or earlier springs which won't be progressive. |

Finally got around to cleaning-off the Dinitrol with white spirit.
The springs on my Defender are indeed Purple/Brown (although the brown looks more like dark yellow, but never mind!). The new RKB500300 (White/green/green) are £66.76 each (+VAT) from most dealers! I have seen them for as little as £48 on the web) Anyone: 1. Done this, and confirm that white/green/green will actually noticably soften the ride (remembering driving a CSW, I DO think they are softer/more compliant at the back end...) 2. Anyone got any white/green/green for sale because they've lifted or hardened the back end? Thanks Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

i towed my trailer yesterday. about 80 kg nose weight. made the ride lovely.
Also i have removed my 6&7 seats...they weigh around 30kg each. so i think the load over the rear axle has been reduced by say 60-80 kg. Whats the weight over the rear axle for a late 110? |

I'm not sure of weights, but as mine's a County USW, it's quite a lot lighter than a CSW XS - no rear seats, no aircon, etc. Mine's great when well-laden, but "choppy" and bouncy unladen. I'm rarely fully-laden (if I need to carry a lot I use the trailer...it's easier to load)...Hence this thread. When I drove CSW's in the past, they seemed less choppy at the back, hence this thread... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Well - I have done a deal with a site sponsor (Duckworths, Thanks Dan...), to buy the CSW springs.
