Chassis condition
Afternoon all,

Would someone be really kind to check the attached couple of pics of the chassis on an 07 I'm thinking about. I haven't really got anything to compare to.

All looks surface to me but if someone wouldn't mind casting an expert eye?!

Cheers
Paul.

Looks fine to me - atleast it's honest and someone hasn't tried to cover it up. If you went for it, you could just get some rust convertor whacked on there (and any other rusty bits) and a top coat of Dinitrol all over and it will be fine. They all rust if not treated, so it's nothing unusual. Wouldn't worry about it unduly. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

6 years old? Looks good to me.

Check the inside of the chassis as well for (excessieve) mud:

In the back of the 2 main beams is quite a big hole you can put your hand in.

In the center there's a few holes you can put a finger in. If the holes are clogged you need to find a way to look inside (endoscope), otherwise you can have a feel. Clogged can mean trapped water.

In front there's 2 squares just below the bumper. If the rubbers are still on, pull them off and look/feel. Keep them off as well.

Between the cabin and the front and back wheels there's a cavity you can put your hand in. It is a place that clogges up with mud as well. Have a look/feel there ad well.

If you buy the car, those are the things you need to keep clean.

Yep looks very good for it's age Thumbs Up

Mine gets bits like that occasionally. A quick wire brush on anything loose, then a spray with Fertan Rust Converter, rinse off, dry & spray with 2 coats of Dinitrol...looks lots better and keeps it all at bay for a long while Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Looks to me as though someone has already coated the chassis with some sort of 'oily' concoction - whether it was a wipe down with an oily rag last week, some sort of anti-corrosion treatment from a while back or whatever I will leave to the forensic experts. As previously commented the chassis itself looks in good condition but try and check the internals for a solidified or watery mass of crud that will only encourage rot from the inside out. As for the surface rust around the welds and fasteners - wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
