Metallic Rattle and other sounds
My Puma 2.4 has developed a couple of noises.

the first noise is a metaillic rattle that sounds a bit like a 'ringing' sound. it is quite high pitched, not very loud and very intermittant. i only hear it when the engine is idling.

the second noise is from the engine. on idle (at traffic lights for instance) the engine seems to cyle through two definite running sounds, one is smooth as you would expect and then this gradually turns rough and the noise level increases and then fades away.

any clues for either of these?

the vehicle has covered 4500 miles.

4 the second one I would look into the pressure sensor/valve on the common rail system. Puma 110" SW

If that is the case it defenetly a non DIY work. As for the other noise, search here under rattle+turbo or heat shield. Puma 110" SW

My fix for the heatshield rattle was to insert 3 small stainelss nuts between the shield and the rail it attaches to to lift the whole shield away from the manifold. Re-use the original bolts and you're done. Just make sure the mechanic that does your service doesn't take it upon himself to remove them thinking he's helping Rolling Eyes D300 HSE 110
