Hi
I am looking for a swing away spare wheel carrier for my 110DC. The one of choice, from Frogs Island, is in for redesign and they have no idea when it will be back in stock. The Kaymar one looks good but is expensive for just a carrier. Then I found this - http://www.roverworld.com/outback_extreme_english.htm Spare wheel carrier plus bumper, shipped to the UK for £940 plus VAT ! Are there any other options out there for a swing away carrier that mounts to the chassis only that I have missed ? Bob |

Good news Bob, another thing I have looked into.
The best deal I have found is this one: http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/index.php?page=47 I spoke to them yesterday and it even fits on with a NAS rear step. They come either with or without a hi-lift jack mount. Mine cost £178.26 for SEL06 (Wheel carrier post 02 with jack mount) Regards, Glyn |

Glyn, have you got any photos of the mount fitted to your Defender?

If I am not mistaken doesn't the top fixing fit to the body tub ? I am trying to find a carrier that only fits to the chassis as per Kaymar and frogs Island etc. Bob |

They will be the only ones you can get then. I would love a Kaymar one but would foul the NAS step . They are awesome wheel carriers and worth the little extra. Glyn |

I have the safari-equip one fitted to mine , good and strong with no rattle. It does throw the spare wheel off centre on the back of the truck , which some don't like !
As far as I am aware most of the wheel carriers that only attach to the chassis dont open with the rear door. From memory frogs island 4x4 have a chassis mounted one . |

Thanks for the storage box link - I am looking for one of those as well ! Nidge My vehicle is a Double Cab with a tailgate so I don't have to worry about opening with the door ! The frogs Island carrier is the one I am really after but when I contacted them they told me it is being redesigned and there is no ETA on the new version. Bob |

I just ordered mine this morning. Just the micro storage chest so I can add the drawr at a later date if I want to. It is sounding like ours will look almost the same by the end of modifying
That is a bit vague, sounds like the old ones could have had a problem? Have you tried talking to Jon at Venture overland? He can supply the Kaymar ones, and normaly gives a good price, and he is also willing to give you advice on other makes. Glyn |

I think we will have twins ! The reply from Frogs Island is a bit vague and does sound like there was a problem with the original. I will contact Jon at Venture Overland to see what he can suggest. Bob |

Take a look at this This is designed to fit 90 / 110 - hard top or pickup fully chassis mounted with no mods to the tailgate as the Kaymar needs. And has a gas strut for controlled opening.
It will be going into production shortly Click image to enlarge |

That is EXACTLY what I am after ! Put me down for one. I got a good price from Venture on the Kaymar but was put off by hinge moving especially as my replacement vehicle had to have the tailgate resprayed before I would accept it ! Any idea on price yet ? Bob |

Hello Bob
Not sure yet on exact price but it will be less than the Kaymar i will let you know a price as soon as possible it will have an adjustable over center catch which is lockable if needed and the wheel mount is adjustable for different offsets and also for height, so you can drop it down for visability when not towing |
