steering guards
which have you got im after one but with so many out there im Confused i would like one with towing eyes.

that is nice though the genuine one is such good quality aswell heres mine with towing eyes, i believe its terrafirma one

I'm guessing that's an ICE thing then? Doesn't help on regular models though, unfortunately.

Unless something substantially better comes up, I plan to fit the Shadow guard from First Four Off-road which has 10mm side plates with towing eyes and an 8mm ali. main plate.

Having said that, it does look very similar to the one fitted to Killer90's above. Darren

cheers tolley and yer Anorak thats the one i have got shadow aluminum steering guard its identical so must be, the terraifirma one which i thought i had is slightly different and doesnt have holes in the bottom piece Thumbs Up cheers for that

Please, please remember that there is a BIG difference between towing eyes, lash down eyes and RECOVERY eyes.

To the best of my knowledge, Land Rover do NOT fit RECOVERY EYES as standard at the front of Defenders.

They do fit LASHING EYES. Lashing eyes are designed for lashing down Defenders to transporters/containers etc. These LASHING eyes are NOT designed for Recovery purposes.

Be wary of some of the aftermarket steering guards with inbuilt recovery eyes, especially with some of those on ebay.

Yes I have photos of twisted lashing eyes used for recovery. Also have photos of el cheapo ebay specials which have failed at the mounting points.

Buy cheap? Make sure that you are rich enough to buy twice over.

Forget looks, start thinking of practicalites!

Do YOU know the difference between a lashing eye and a recovery point? What about the quality of the bolts/chassis that things are attached? Do you know the difference between a tow strap and a recovery strap? Do you understand the forces involved?

Seriously, you cannot use them for recovery - highly dangerous (no matter what Defender of the Earth says Rolling with laughter )

I have the standard land rover bar type guard fitted and it suits my needs well. Its cheap and easy to fit, doesnt weigh much and gives good protection for green laning and 'normal' off roading. The down side is that it isnt much good for bouncing off rocks and extreme off roading. On the plus side though its doesnt act like a plough when your going backwards.
