You can have jate rings and a steering guard fitted to the same holes - it does require the steering guard to have clearance for the jate rings though ......

I have jate rings and I'm still looking for a steering guard I like.

No chance for me - no clearance Sad
Nothing else seems possible, so now the big question:

Would drilling 2 new holes about 2" back from the front of the chassis and fitting jate rings make sense?

Cheers

So if you have a basic LR guard fitted, is there anywhere safe on the front where you can be recovered? (by professionals of course).

A quick search found this sort of thing...

Does it make sense?

Already have combi-towing hitch on the back.

I wouldn't have those. The steel of the bumper itself is really thin and bends too easily.

The hitch that someone posted, that's great but absolutely not with a tow hook (for recovery), it needs to have a shackle and heavy duty pin etc.

Jate rings are ok if you use them with a bridle, not so good without, and as someone else said, they are often buried if youre in the s***. A decent winch bumper has good recovery points, like the devon one, and the goodwinch one (when used with spring clip held shackle points. I'd never use a snowplough type guard recovery point on it's own, would always use a bridle and use both eyes and have the pull centred.

I believe those things effectively wrap around the bumper and attach via the bumper mounting bolts rather than through the bumper itself. Darren

Matt, the answer to drilling holes in your chassis to mount recovery points is basically a big NO NO

The holes for the Jate rings are reinforced inside the chassis.

To fit new recovery points the holes would need to be sleeved and the chassis reinforced with 6 - 8mm plates either side of the chassis. What are German MOT inspectors like with welded plates on chassis?

That swivel recovery eye is probably made by Equipe of Italy. Not sure what thickness the steel bracket is but would guess about 6mm. It fits over the standard bumper and is fixed on the bumper bolt holes. To accommodate the swivel a hole has to be drilled in the bumper. All the recovery forces at the swivel is transferred via the steel bracket to the chassis. No recovery forces go through the bumper

Many thanks Brendan Bow down
Matt

p.s. if ADAC/RAC had to pull me out of a hole from the front end, do you know where they would attach their hook? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

So, are there any steering guards that will fit with jate rings? I have some but am yet to fit them, thought they utilised the same holes as the steering guard bracketry - therefore, aside from the jate rings being able to fit through the front of the steering guard, are they wide enough? does that make sense Smile 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top
