jst, the engine performed well for 6 months after the head gasket but then suddenly started running hotter than before. Currently no gasses present after a drive just airlocked heaters

jb, I’m not getting any change of colour on the RELD test so assume there is no exhaust gas leak also no leak on the pressure test. any issues leaving the Egr cooler permanently bypassed? It’s deactivated via the remap.

Andy, I will check the little hose over the weekend, and also remove and inspect what hoses I can to check for blockages or delaminating 2023 Defender L663 V8

Be interested in the outcome. I have an airlock in the heater matrix I think.

Hot coolant in supply hose to heater valve (just replaced AGAIN 🤬 albeit with an RDX one) but blower cold and hose from valve rear to matrix cold. Can shine a torch through the heater valve body and only 10% full of coolant.

Be grateful for best way of unblocking as not clearing by running engine with bleed point opened / expansion tank cap off etc….. 2010 2.4 TDCI Puma Defender 90

A vacuum purge and fill tool is less than £30 on amazon. Needs a small compressor to run but they are very effective at filling without introducing air. I have One and it’s a no fuss one hit job guaranteed to be air lock free. ( if you keep the pick up tube submerged)

The fact your system is constantly "making air" is the concern. Mine did the same and was only resolved by a head and head gasket change. The head had micro-cracks that the shop said pressure tested just fine but I spoke with Turner and they have been selling a lot of heads so I decided to change mine as well. YMMV

jb, this is what I'm thinking, initially the over pressure would happen only after at least a 2 hour run so thinking the head test would probably pass when cold. but I'm still not getting any reading on the RELD test? What's the cost of a new head?

Siwynne, ive actually got one which came with the coolant pressure test kit, might be worth a go? 2023 Defender L663 V8

That's what I thought. Comes with the valves/springs/etc so it is all ready to go. There are bare heads cheaper but I went with Turner as they have a good rep.

This is what i have eluded too and concur with. Air is being introduced some where.

What was the reason the head gasket needed tk be changed the first time? Had that issue that caused the initial failure been fixed yet? Cheers

I think you need to bottom out the cause of the coolant loss rhe first time it happened. I have just reared the posts and can't see that rhe initial cause has been rectified.

Is it mapped? If so by who?

You can bypass the egr cooler with a piece of pipe Yes. Cheers
