Alarm going off intermittently
Hi I have a 2015 Defender and the alarm has started going off randomly usually at 12-3AM. The alarm just goes off but lights come on. Can’t turn it off in the end I took the positive lead off the battery. I tried locking it with the key but alarm went off again 30 minutes later. My neighbours are pretty tolerant but after the third night of doing this im pushing it.

Can anybody advise me on how to fix it or disable the alarm until I can get a ghost or scorpion fitted.

Many thanks
Mike

Does it start ok in the morning? As it could also be the battery voltage dropping too low, and the battery backup sounder BBUS would trigger. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I thought initially it was someone messing with it but it’s blocked in by other cars and no lights going off just the alarm sounds and goes on and off for about 5 minutes. Didn’t disable when I took the negative cable off but stopped when I removed positive terminal

What voltage is it sitting at, at rest? It could be dipping below the threshold that it likes to see. No Guts, No Glory.

Check your door and bonnet switches to see if they are working correctly and the terminals etc are not corroded.
Also have a look at your Alarm Locking Module (ALM) unit to see if it is wet and the two connectors going to it are properly seated. You can see the unit by removing the drivers footwell speaker and looking up at the bulkhead.

Cheers that sounds like the most plausible as had some water leakage coming in to o the footwell.

Many thanks to all responses and will update when I find anything.

I am thinking of fitting a Scorpion after Christmas

Given its a new battery, make sure the cables are clamped well to the battery terminals. Easiest way is to loosen off the clamp and gently tap the clamp down on the terminal with a hammer and drift. Then torque up the clamp bolt.

Cheers first thing I did and we’re all tight and pushed into terminals.

Is there any draught setting off the internal alarm? The volumetric sensor I think they call it?
Or it could be faulty if there is one fitted.

Failing that, a door or bonnet sensor is degraded that possibly the wind at night is jiggling it around, less likely if in closed garage though. No Guts, No Glory.

I have a 2015 90XS Station Wagon and I had exactly the same problem when it was a couple of years old. The only way I could stop it sounding was to disconnect the battery. Turned out to be the BBUS was faulty. Defender 90XS SW

BBUS Battery Back up Sounder - anyone know if these are available as no one seems to stock them. Is it possible to remove them or do they cause an issue to stop the alarm going off randomly until I can get a replacement system

I did look at that thread but it doesn’t say it stops the issue by removing it or where you can get a new one other than LR who say not available
