How does the fan blower intake attach to the blower housing?
Hey boys and girls, I just changed my fan blower resistor and fan motor, other than the screw fasteners on the top wing that fasten down the fan blower intake, what else attaches the plastic canister housing to the blower housing. It seems it just sits alongside it and barely creates any seal. Any help is appreciated!!

AFAIK that's as designed.

I fabricated my own fixing method here, providing a better seal that reduces engine noise in the cabin and helps a bit with the A/C in the summer.

It's been discussed on here before, many people's vehicle had had gaps between the parts large enough to stick your hand in. Some have double up on the foam "seal" or taken other steps to improve the fit. It also seems to be very variable from one vehicle to another.

It is certainly not Landrover's finest pinnacle of design brilliance.

This is worth a read on the subject, with a couple of solutions.

All good information here guys. This issue is obviously a design flaw which unfortunately has dire consequences to our health and preservation of our vehicles. The smoke and diesel exhaust fumes are easily sucked inside the vehicles if the surfaces between the blower housing and intake housing aren’t pulled/sealed together. Obviously any engine “blow by” smoke or slight exhaust leaks will be sucked directly inside the cab which is not only unpleasant but very unhealthy. This is true even if these surfaces are sealed tight, but more so than being pulled in from outside the wing top. Water ingress into the heater blower housing/cab is also a major issue, not only causing eventual failure of the blower motor and resistor but also water ingress inside the vehicle will result in corrosion of firewall/floor boards and fasteners.

I’m attempting to figure out a resolution, either with rivnuts/stainless safety wire or plastic wire tie cables/anchors similarly accomplished by a previous member. I considered using stainless boot spring latches which would encompass drilling into both housings but would ensure a steady and constant “pull” I will keep you informed and attempt a fix once it warms up a little.

Except that there should be no exhaust fumes round the engine unless the exhaust is leaking, and any blow-by gasses should be ingested by the induction system from the crank case breather.

If you're getting either in the cab it's probably worth fixing that problem as well as the poorly-fittng heater trunking.

Here’s my solution for the poor fitting air intake cowl to heater blower fan housing. I purchased a small “pump air wedge” off eBay, they’re typically used for lifting and aligning objects during construction or levelling of furniture etc. They’re also available at Screwfix and other retail stores, they’re cheap and made from heavy duty vinyl. If you’re unfamiliar with these I will include an image, it took less than a minute to install and super easy. Slide the small flat bag between the air intake cowl and the inner wheel liner and pump the bulb a few times just enough to lift and push the intake cowl towards the heater blower housing, and done. It is easy to control how much force/pressure you use by adding or reducing air through the bulb. I will be periodically checking pressure but just in case the bag deflates I’ve used a small zip tie to loosely hold the bulb to the harness for the fan blower. No more water entering the blower housing and no more outside odors pulled through the fan housing into the cabin.

It’s not a design feature? I always thought it was a quite effective coolant leak detection sniffometer. WARNING.
