England 1998 Defender 90 Td5 SW Auto Oslo Blue
I got in my Defender at 7.09 am, turned the key, couple attempts to start then nothing other than a 'click'. Hmmph.

Went inside, woke the other half. He said probably the battery, as it had been showing signs of being on its way out.

Anyway, too dark to fix then, so off I went to work in the other half's Range Rover (comfy, warm, good stereo, no complaints there!) So Defender stayed home to get 'looked at' later.

Apparently it was the starter motor. Last week I had problems with the LPG system.

Could have lasted the week out, but oh no. Basically it is throwing a big strop due to the impending V8 to TD5 swop starting this weekend. Sad Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Was that for street lighting (so far as I know you can only use SWA for that). I once had to pull in a few Ks of it - we used a lorry. Thumbs Up Bloody rotten stuff to work with, much prefer ABC or conventional wire. 2011 110 USW

It's a mains run from a garage to the main house, 50m so the cable is heavy enough to withstand voltage drop I believe. Thumbs Up
It's still not in, a smaller core Economy 7 wire for the same run went in a breeze, I've taken alternative measures and gotten some heavier draw cord for this stuff, we kept snapping the nylon Shocked Shocked 110 Tdci Double Cab

It could be a local thing but I'm pretty certain it was not permitted to use SWA as mains cable, certainly not something I have ever seen in my time on the board. It was only used on private underground street lighting networks. The sizing I understand, just not the SWA part, I think its something to do with the type of earthing that could be used (you can't use PME on SWA IIRC)

Thanks for the insight, I'm honestly not sure, it's my dad's build and I believe that the SWA was specced by the electrician. The main fuse board is in the garage as it is closer to the pole, this SWA then takes the power underground to the house.

I was told by an electrician that it should really be SWA running from my house to the shed, not the crappy cloth-covered stuff that's there now. Can't quite face digging all the concrete up to change it though Big Cry
