It's a mains run from a garage to the main house, 50m so the cable is heavy enough to withstand voltage drop I believe.

It could be a local thing but I'm pretty certain it was not permitted to use SWA as mains cable, certainly not something I have ever seen in my time on the board. It was only used on private underground street lighting networks. The sizing I understand, just not the SWA part, I think its something to do with the type of earthing that could be used (you can't use PME on SWA IIRC)

Thanks for the insight, I'm honestly not sure, it's my dad's build and I believe that the SWA was specced by the electrician. The main fuse board is in the garage as it is closer to the pole, this SWA then takes the power underground to the house.

Correct, it runs from the fuse board onwards, Western Power people did the bit from the pole to the fuse board.
