Hi Linds, I don't know why the main shaft moved forwards other than there was no reason why it shouldn't. The gearbox guy who looked at it immediately said there was something wrong with the set up. All conversions he's seen had to have a bolt through which was how I cured it. It may have stayed where it was without the bolt, once he'd tightened it up with BMW flange, but it wasn't worth the risk when there was a relatively simple solution. I sent a message to Shabs at synchro to ask if he'd had a problem but got no reply so I assume it isn't a problem till it becomes one As for leaking I've not seen any fresh oil under it since the conversion which is a refreshing change Citroen 2CV. Click image to enlarge Zero progress on transfer gears ( Shoulder still knackered) But I ditched the K+N filter and reinstated the puma airbox. This seemed to make the exhaust note a bit quieter, not sure why, I also put the engine cover on for a more factory look Citroen 2CV. Click image to enlarge Back in workshop for more surgery Click image to enlarge Transfer box out as too low geared. I was going to tackle this myself but I just don't have enough kit ( Bench press) or confidence and shoulder is still very painfull (awaiting an op) Click image to enlarge I'm now going to return the box and gear set back to Ashcroft transmissions and let them deal with it. While they're in there I'm getting an ATB fitted. Citroen 2CV. Interestingly when I removed transfer box the pin I put in the BMW output shaft converter was snapped in two places I'm not sure how that happened. One snap I could understand. Anyhow I deducted from this that since the shaft didn't move forward and create the stuck in gear problem I had that it wasn't worth replacing, drilling output shaft and recutting the thread. Ashcroft transmissions sorted the ratio change and fitted an ATB while they were in there. I have now put it all back together and the ratio change has made the gears much more user friendly. 70mph is around 2000rpm maybe a bit more but I can confirm this next time I'm on a motorway or decent length dual carriageway. I may even have got away with the 1.003 ratio but I do tow a heavy trailer from time to time so I'm happy with this ratio. If you do this same conversion as I have with a 110 defender and use the same gearbox I would recommend factoring in this ratio change while your at it. Citroen 2CV. (Written off)

It's been a year now and still an absolute joy to drive.
Click image to enlarge Changed the air inlet set up from this Click image to enlarge to this. The difference was amazing. Tickover went from 1100rpm to 800rpm, throttle response, power and sound all improved. Also removed the centre box from the exhaust for a throatier sound which makes me happy Click image to enlarge Also cut this hole in the air intake and put in a bit of guttering to divert and hopefully force a bit more air into engine. All little adjustments but very satisfying improvements. Citroen 2CV. Sounds like youre coming to the end of the build then Tim you've done a good job.
How do you find the ATB? I love them. odd regarding the output shaft and issues with teh change. Do hope I don't encounter the same. Need an update on that noise btw, can't be having too loud now 4.0 V8 Defender 90 My Instagram |

Where have you been Tim - and how's the shoulder?
What do you think to the 1.100 ratio in the transfer box? I'm considering now lengthening mine down to a 1.003 or even 0.9 so I can hit 60MPH at the top of 2nd gear.. Need some first hand advice while still accounting for the extra mass of your 110... Cheers 4.0 V8 Defender 90 My Instagram |

Hey Luke sorry only just seen this! I used to get notifications but they've stopped for some reason The 1.1 made it a different and way better vehicle to drive. The other option from ashcroft was the 1.003 I think. Shoulder op was a success! I've seen the odd pic on instagram from you but I never post on there mainly Facebook, but even then not a lot. I got some new tyres today the 33x12.50x15 Hankook dynapro MT I've not done any proper driving with them yet but the steering is already a lot lighter The toyo open country MT's have been fantastic but I fancied a change. Hows the M57 gearbox with yours? The other mod I've done is to remove the centre silencer so it's just the two small silencers on each tail piece and it sounds magnificent. Turns heads every where and when you really hold on to the gears it doesn't half shift. The m57 gearbox I've got is a bit tired it slips out of 1st and reverse every now and then so I'm on the lookout for a spare but for every day driving it's a blast. On the motorway I got it to 90 and it had more but I stopped there Take it easy buddy and we need to meet up at some point. I can add you on face book if you like as I've seen you as a suggestion.

I bet its quite smooth travelling at speed now with a more balanced engine, not that the pumas would rattle. However, for me thats one of the many improvements. I may have to go to a 1.1 centre diff ratio also as its a tad short at the moment but other than that I cannot complain at all about my Gs6/ M57 box.
Noise wise I'm regretful of that fact that I didn't down hat you did and install cats on the down pipes, I need the volume reducing quite a lot Of course, add me. 4.0 V8 Defender 90 My Instagram |
