Dynamat on the interior base panel, 2mm adhesive foam (generic) on a bit of the internal vertical sides.

Dynamat and then Dodo Thermo Liner Pro 5mm SE inside and outside the seatbox and gearbox tunnel where I could made big difference to the heat.

My experience on the Freelander, even though it is a quiet car to start with. Is don't go overboard with butyl. it is simply to stop nodal points resonating.
Fill any & all areas as much as possible with acoustic foam. Including stuffing down A, B, C & D pillars. The ceiling in my Freelander has 35 - 45mm of foam. Have filled all spaces possible around the car. My gut feel, 25mm on every reasonably possible surface. 50mm where you can is the go. If you can go thicker all the better. The thicker the foam the lower frequencies it will subdue. I also looked at hi-fi base dampers. Often they use unpacked ceiling batts in the original compressed packaging. Higher density, but not too much, in corners of rooms. 50mm thickness of foam on average around the car is the starting point. 2, 5 or 10mm is a waste of time on average. Median thickness around the car needs to be 50mm at least. Do your ceiling, I was surprised just how much difference it made on the Freelander. Visitor - Freelander owner |
