Latter more plain Jane 4 and 5 door models offered as the XR4x4i with the 2.9 in.

Yes they had the 2.8's in at first, then as you say they had the 2.9's and when the fuel prices went up they put the 2.0 twin cams in the 4 and 5 door 4x4's last of the line Sierra's  Clayton.

Used to see the TVR Tuscan Challenge ( if I recall the right name ) at Snetterton back in the late 80's. Those things were awesome. Great racing in the dry, like Bambi on ice in the wet, but still enjoyable but for all the wrong reasons

Dawn French had a TVR. They were a bit like a Defender. A car you had to live with. Electrical Gremlins were many, the build quality was questionable and they rusted like a dog but oh did the look and sound good.

Many had them were removed and a manual choke fitted instead. These days they work perfectly and as you say, no one understands them unless you have a two stroke strimmer or hedge cutter, they all seem to have them. But then, lots of people buy battery garden appliances now.

Those manual choke conversion kits were a good seller back in their day.

I’ve read that but both of mine were 100% reliable and build quality was light years ahead of a Land Rover.
