Out with the old
Click image to enlarge In with the new Click image to enlarge Hey presto, 2 of the most annoying rattles are solved. Nylon bush thingies on the originals were pretty worn and seemed to be allowing play. Down side… reminded me how my front hinges are all shot and need replacing. Anyhow, just ticked over 25k since buying Ron and still love him. Click image to enlarge |

Dull jobs which don’t deserve photos ticked off:
1. Replaced a couple of tiddly bulbs behind the heater controls. Much swearing and knuckle bleeding ensued. 2. Replaced a broken head light adjuster motor which I suspect I’ll never use in anger, but at least both work now. Door hinges are inbound, looking forward to fitting them and seeing if the drivers door latches properly / leaks less. Probably not…. |

New hinges have arrived; looking forward to getting them on when I have a spare day in the coming months.

When i did Millie's door hinges i took the door cards off and kept the door shut and changed them, you might need a second pair of hands for the bottom hinge but if you haven't as i did not at the time, i just improvised and it all came good in the end 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Sorted out the plastic grill on the wing which was hanging off.
Click image to enlarge Turns out at some point in Ron’s life someone broke all the lugs off and just glued it back on….helpful Click image to enlarge After much fiddling, twiddling and cleaning up new one is on and looking much better. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

…. So did the top vents also

Solved the knackered rear door lock….
Click image to enlarge One of the wires in the rubber sheath (!) had broken. Some new wire and a bit of soldering later and bingo all works fine now. Fitted a shedder which was missing previously. Click image to enlarge And back together (with newly glued door card clips in place and more broken ones….and the dog hair….) Click image to enlarge |

Another full service done, rolled past 80k and still going strong (bar the shonky gear change which will need attention at some point but is now a little better after a flush and new fluids).
What reward for Ron being the happiest daily I’ve had in years? £25 of the internet’s finest floor mats, marking the end of those “oh fark, my shoe is caught in the floormat hole” braking moments. Click image to enlarge |

One new crank position sensor later and we’re back on the road again. Driving 5 hours in heavy traffic last week with a constantly stalling engine was less than fun.
Next job….. bite the bullet on the transmission work due as the syncros are clearly knackered…. He says half knowing what that means. |

Haha, I like the mention of it being your timeliness thread, I often feel the same with mine and wonder about adding dull jobs, but you've actually reminded me, my light doesn't come on when I open the drivers door! Did you find the pin switch anywhere in particular?
