Wobbly mirror fixed…
Click image to enlarge Must change the f&cked hinges at some point. Also new door pulls fitted… Click image to enlarge Not 100% convinced but let’s see how the finish holds up. Now I’ve worked out how to get door cards off without ruining all the fixings, next job is sound proofing therein and sorting the 900 rattles. |

Just ticked over 20k miles in the last 18 months and still believe this to be the happiest car I’ve ever owned. Sure lots of faster and in reality better stuff has come and gone, but I do love this thing. Daily driver, family road trip wagon, dog and bike hauler….all make me smile.
Bilstein shocks and steering damper have gone on to replace the leaky, knackered old units which I think were there since new. It’s no magic carpet, but less crashy and more stable in general. Service is done and remarkably nothing else seems knackered at this point. So what’s next: - fully loaded Le Mans duty next month - sort out some rust - more sound proofing - finish the interior carpeting - fit the light bar I’ve got sitting around - tweak my bike rack set up….v2 will be easier to secure to the tie downs in the back - change the grille (paint is a big dodgy) One thing I can’t settle on is the chassis rust proofing….do I do it myself and make a mess or get someone else to do it. Answers on a postcard…. |

Finished the arts and crafts carpeting in the back today.
Click image to enlarge C8cked up a couple of bits, but generally pleased. Next to move on to the rear passenger area. Also changed this…. Click image to enlarge To this big cushy fella… Click image to enlarge After 20k miles I think my spine was developing a left lean, so it’s nice to have my elbow at an anatomically correct height now. Materials match is close enough, just needs to weather in a bit. |

V2 bike rack went in today…..had to cut 5mm off each end of V1 as the insulation stalled in recent months had made the load space a little narrower.

Arts n crafts session in the sun. Pointless level of coverage? Perhaps, but it does make me happy.
Click image to enlarge Shame the rear mat was installed the wrong way round….holes are in the wrong place if I turn it and it’d drive me insane if I punched new ones. Click image to enlarge And a gratuitous shot of the biggest rig after a long day in the woods… Click image to enlarge |

Light bar is on….
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Found more horrible wiring for the old spotlights that the previous owner paid someone to install. God awful mess which next job is to unwrap. May also play with wiring into the high beam….. not sure yet, part of me likes stand-alone switch on / off from a dash button |

Chasing more leaks, so today was the f4cked windscreen block gaskets.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge New gaskets and a tonne of grease will hopefully stop some of the dribbles. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Will get some nice black billet blocks when I do the hinges….but not quite yet. |

Arts and crafts has also moved into the front footwells and started the door cards.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Need to get some water shedders for the rear doors as they were missing. Once I’ve got them I’ll do some arts n crafts on the inner door skins whilst in there. |

Also decided not to wire the light bar into the high beam, it’s just too damn bright for that. Much better with stand-alone switch for those perfect moments…..like last night on camp, late hour drunken boule…
Click image to enlarge (Yes I have sorted the beam angle now….). |

I recall driving 02 plate TD5 hard tops at work that didn't have the little windows, not sure if that was a special order though. Pretty sure fleet commercials lost them in the Tdi era but I think they had to specify not having them. My vehicle never had them, they were an extra cost option when I ordered mine (over £400 I think) Station wagons never lost them. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |
