Fixed
So it seems injectors were the problem. Got it back today without the noise. My local dealer couldn’t get the pilot learn or coding of the injectors to work. I persevered with my nano. What did I lean …….? Well, code them one at a time …. If I entered all 4 and did a WRITE it wouldn’t spit it out - error 31 One by one was ok …. And then the pilot learn also worked. Before I managed to get the coding to work the learn function was also having a fit and quite literally computer says no! Wise words on where to source parts - I tend head for the same as LR fitted but I do the leg work to buy from elsewhere. Denso kit is easily available but the prices can vary hugely. I will only use Denso for such things a VCV and injectors. I’ll agree beware of reconditioned injectors. I buy mine from Merlin Diesel https://www.merlindiesel.com/
Also avoid eBay or aftermarket fuel valves they can be impossible to get to do pilot learns. |

Nice, I hope my injectors will have the same effect
Can you still drive it from A to B before recoding the injectors? Might have to send it to the garage for a relearn, would be nice if the car can get there without me pushing it haha Making my Defender great again. (Or trying to at least xD) |

I drove it home (less than 10km) without the coding or pilot learn. Was fine but you could hear it wasn’t quite right.
Unless you are doing a 100km trip then should be ok. There are some good threads here that suggest maybe even it doesn’t need to be done as the ECU will figure it out, the coding and pilot simply shortcut the adjustment time. I am not wise enough to know if that’s correct but it does seem to make some sense One thing that you could do if you have access to a tool is just to do a relearn of the existing injectors. This made a huge difference to my car - wish I had done it sooner. I am supposing over 14 years and a lot of fuel, the calibration of the injectors drifts out There is of course one downside to fixing a rattle …… and that is now I can hear other rattles that were disguised. Maybe a louder radio is the solution! 2010 90 LHD soft top 2010 110 XS 1985 90 soft top |
