oooh, this is interesting! Mine are both yellow fronts on my DC and it 'leans' towards the drivers side. I'd been told the springs should be white/drivers side & yellow/passenger? Wonder what could be the problem if the list above is correct then? Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey |

Cheers for the info , I will check tomorrow and report back. They're caked in mud at the moment so i can't find the coloured bands .

For a 110 which is heavy duty in the rear
white or brown? Why would I not have a stripe? |

Mark Just checked mine again and they are as follow (which is also in the list posted but for LHD !!!) LHD 110 2 seat utility, 5 seat station wagon and 5 seat crew cab (3050 Kg) Front - Driver's side NRC 8044 White/white Front - Passenger side NRC 8045 Yellow/yellow Rear - Both sides RKB101111 Purple/brown I think the LHD and RHD specs may be round the wrong way Also, if you look at the HD springs they are handed and the specs for them are correct. Bear in mind that part of the reason the Defender ride seems quite wallowy/jiggly on bumpy tarmac, is down to the ARBs allowing lateral pitching.
If you soften the springs too much, you will have even more 'interesting' handling, as the shocks will not damp enough for the amount of 'high frequency' movement (you can tell I'm not an engineer here, but I have been racing cars for nearly 20 years, so it must count for something?) they will be doing. I played around with dampers and rear springs (left the front springs OEM - There's a fair bit of weight at the front), and now have a really good on-road ride. The fact that this great ride is then destroyed when carrying passengers, tells me that the anti-roll bars are not quite up to keeping the 110 level, meaning the springs and shocks are working harder (too hard?). My next upgrade is thicker ARBs on front and back. I'm not looking at climbing boulders in my 110, so that suits me fine. My theory is that as long as the front and back setups are not too different, the 4WD should avoid any issues with understeer/oversteer. They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, though, so don't necessarily take my advice!

LOL, that is where I was coming from as well. That's why I went with standard LR road springs and quality shocks. The ride is now comparable to the FL and a Saab Convertible, excluding a bit of pitch and a tad more body roll if pushed. On that basis job done! I have also been thinking about stiffer ARBs, to solve the roll issue, I will probably call JR Eng or similar for a chat. But not until the warranty has run out in early 2013. BM52 |

Still haven't checked the rear springs yet ! Will do this afternoon.
In a way I hope that they are OEM HD springs so can swap them out for a pair of standards. I can't complain about my OME shocks they were worth every penny. SZRACER - what springs did you go with on the back ? I've been looking at JE engineering website and they do ARB's and spring sets . What a lot of these company's don't tell you is whether they are for a more taught / sporty ride or for better on road comfort. I'm sure the two are separate issues. 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma |

I ended up with a set of 'custom' made springs from Extreme 4x4 (good quality springs, but had to chase them for delivery). They should have my 'spec' on record if you ask.
They were still variable rate, very slightly softer than the OEM springs and about 20mm lower than the brown/purple ones. My 110 still sits (very) slightly higher at the back, but is much more level, and will still tow my race car and trailer (1600kg) plus 100kgs of stuff in the back with no problems at all. The cost ended up about the same as the JE ones, so I'd probably go JE if I was doing it again, although I'm very pleased with my ones. I think you can get a tauter ride at the same time as more ride comfort on a Defender. The main obstacle to on-road handling is the amount of axle articulation for off-road. If you're prepared to sacrifice a little of this you can get a good 'interim' setup like mine. I suspect my ride would be improved further still by the thicker ARBs, but obviously this limits axle articulation off-road (altough I still reckon you'd be fine in most off-road settings apart from climbing VERY uneven terrain.

What is the difference between dicovery HD springs and standard dicovery springs. If you were going for out and out road comfort would you not just go for the disco springs instead of the HD ones ? Or is the defender heavier and thus needs the disco HD .
SZRACER - Thanks for the info . I'm going to call JE in the morning. My rear spring are green green white so they are the standard spring after all. I'm preparired to lose a bit of articulation .
