mmbanf: Curious if you and thepetrolhead used the same kit, since he reported successfully installing the bigger brakes?

hello,
the big brakes can also be installed without replacing the hubs, , but you need to insert engagement rings for the wheels, and spacers for the calipers. I do not like this. |

That may well explain why the upgrade has been a simple bolt on for one member and not for another.
Either way spacers and longer bolts would make perfect sense on how to solve the issue when you look at the photos provided above |

Yes, I had the same concern before buying the kit.
That's why the they asked me for the VIN number to see what spec I currently have before sending the complete kit out. |

I studied the fittings of all the defender l663, I can say with certainty that on all versions with 18 (249 front, 225 rear) or 19 (265 front and 250 rear) brakes to install the 380 mm front and 365 rear discs with Brembo six-piston front caliper, ALWAYS insert shims between the supports and the brake caliper.
the question is very simple, the disc of the 18", 19" systems has a thickness on the plate in contact with the hub of 2.5 mm, the disc, the 20" system has a thickness on the plate of 8mm, this leads to a deviation of 5,5 mm, caliper-support, this will be the thickness of the spacer used by Vulkan. another problem remains that the wheel bolts, when inserting the 380 mm disc, will have a useful tightening of 5.5 mm less, and I don't know if this will cause problems... This is interesting. I think the smallest brakes are a little undersized for the vehicles weight, and get quite hot which causes the juddering fault that many have experienced.
I wouldn’t mind swapping for the middle size brakes - what you refer to as the 19 size. But I would not want to change my 18” steel wheels and I’m not sure if they would still fit? I believe it’s only the biggest brakes (as fitted to D300/P400/V8 models) that don’t fit over the 18” wheels but I could be wrong. |

As far as I understand, the brake size is not determined by engine size but by trim levels or extra factory added options.
Only X models and V8 get the 6 pot as standard. Orange color on X model and Blue or black on V8. For example, P400 XS is a 4 pot and P400 X has a 6 pot. All diesels get 4 pot even it is a HSE. The only exception is if one chooses the factory optional 22' for £2.5k, then it will be a 6 pot in a non-painted color, not red, not orange, not blue, but the white greyish color. |

good morning to all the boys,
Today I finally successfully completed the 380mm disc brake upgrade with Brembo six piston calipers. I decided to have the calipers painted by a professional with the original Land Rover Defender Brembo Blue specification. they are actually beautiful. Second phase, I bought the two new 380mm original Brembo system front hubs/bearings. Then I did a great job, removing the hubs was difficult, I used a joint extractor and with a lot of effort we replaced them. Even bleeding was not easy, after the procedure that can only be done in service mode, (gap tool) you have to follow special rules, I had abs errors that didn't want to go away..... Using the Gap tool, I modified the ccf file, relating to the diameter of the front discs, from 18' to 20'. D250 plenty of power pulls, accelerates, & cruises well - same engine as D300 I believe but tweaked to get the extra 50hp |

Got a little confused reading this thread.
So if you order the 22” on a D250, you get the same brake setup as the V8’s only not painted?
