"Oil Service"
Re my previous thread.
My Defender is telling me it needs an "oil service" at around 16,500 miles.

l forgot to ask
Does anyone know....

Can l do this oil change myself, and reset the service indicator. Or is it necessary to take it to a dealer. Obviously it needs to go in to the dealer for the first scheduled service at 21,000 but l wanted to know if the interim "oil service" is registered on the system. l don't want to invalidate the warranty.

Odd one that , why is it saying it needs a service, usually 2 years or 21000 miles.
You can reset the indicator yourself, there’s loads of YouTube videos of how to do it , but it then sets the next service interval to be 730 days after, I.e 2 years 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

l don't know if "oil service" means a 21,000 mile
service, or just an interim oil change.

l will call the LR dealer and see if they can shed some light on it.

I did an oil service myself along with a new oil filter. I then reset the oil service counter by using the method that uses the bonnet open, pedal press method or something like that. I can not find where I put the instructions, but they were from this Forum. It reset the service oil counter but not the main engine / full service counter, it is something like Switch on, open driver’s door, open bonnet, press brake then accelerator and hold for 30 seconds.

It’s asking for new oil as it’s got too diluted from DPF regenerations. Has it been changed since new?
Twelve months or 10,000 miles is what I’d be aiming for. The 2 year 20 odd thousand recommended seems bonkers to me Shocked
Anyway, do the oil filter and new oil yourself and reset the indicator using the pedal press combo routine or use a plug in like a GAP IID Thumbs Up MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

Yes the oil and filter has been changed at 5,000 and 10,000 miles.

But the Defender won't "know" it's been changed, it will assume it's still on the original oil.

Makes sense as it’s not previously been told it has new oil hence why it’s asking for new oil now 👍
On my L322 I used to use the gap iid to reset service interval when I changed the oil between annual services. It basically told the ECU to start its oil dilution calculations from zero 👍👍👍 MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

This week our P400 had its 3rd major service, the dealer under took a 72 month service
schedule on ours which is just under 4 years old. as it goes off road and tows we have
also have interim oil and filter changes done approx at each 12,000 km mark, interims done by the
same dealer who does the major ones, but they never reset the service counter unless it had the main scheduled service done, interims do not count. yet another pommie bar steward down under
