This winter, in the Apls with -26°C thay made a little, but very little of steam, disappeared after 30 min with headlamps on......

not what I'd expect for £1500. I'd love a set if the price weren't so prohibitive. I'd get them replaced - they're meant to be sealed units aren't they?

the condensation comes suddenly. I bought these last year in June. since then I had no problems with condensation. Only in the last six weeks I could observe the first condensation on the glass.

Caution joke: I know why the headlamps fail! As they are not in use for the requested project and the smart MIL-Spec recognized this as sabotage the headlamps went into "self destruction mode" Maik will know what i mean  WANTED:

Whilst doing a bit of research on LED's I noticed these ones are IP67 so technically they are not completely watertight, as the specification only need to allow for them to not leak water for 30seconds when submerged in water which I think only needs to be of at a pressure of 1m deep.
I wonder if the leaking ones have been machine car washed, and the ones that haven't are hand washed ? just a thought. Whereas the next specification of IP68 means they must be sealed and endure much longer times in water. I fitted an ip67 LED brake light a couple of years ago, and that is now misting up. Agree its a hell of a lot of money for a pair of headlamps, when you can get 7" sealed beams halogen headlamps for about £7 each. I think in many ways this is the joke with LED's, although the light output and current draw on the latest range of light bars is phenomenal compared to similarly priced halogen light bars. Do the retailers just replace ip67 lamps if they leak water ? |

Water tight! Now what does that mean?
If you even look at the definition of water tight for ships it is measured by the number of litres of fluid per hour which pass through the seals! You could say its a bit like stainless steel really I does rust but not as fast as carbon steel  Russell

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone else experiences any issue with moisture ingress....The lenses of the JW Speakers have a very thin rubber seal around the concealed edge and are spot-sealed at three points around the circumference. In your situation I would have suggested removing the lamp, take it indoors and perhaps placing it on a radiator thoroughly drying it out, then attempting to run a thin bead of sealant (would suggest marine grade Sikaflex 29i) around the edge of the lens without removing the lens from the lamp. This should prevent any further moisture ingress.
Also the original OEM Wipacs have a rubber boot on the rear of the unit which does not fit on the J W Speaker replacements, when connecting the J W speaker ones a small portion of the terminals are still visible....seal that too....you cannot use too little sealant in my book. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! Last edited by K9F on 24th Jun 2012 10:08am. Not encouraging, so I start having second thoughts abt them as it looks like they will not really cope well with high pressure wash which I am doing regularly. My original clear SVX lenses never have fogged up in the 3.5 years existence of the car, so think will stick to those for now.
On the bright side, that means I can spend the equivalent of £1500 differently  , first thing coming is a full professional Dinitrol treatment here in Geneva next week, then comes an intermediate maintenance job at local LR dealer changing all fluids (engine, gearbox, transfer box, front and rear diffs), and last but not least replacing the middle console front by the Black Wood edition of the Black Pearl ltd edition.... Will all be done prior Easter You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
