It seems that the choice of seat rails has continued to go up to the point I'm at a loss as to if there is now any difference.
In terms of choice. a quick look about and there is the following (some may be missed) The Below is in price order from manufacturers websites today. To be fair and do not include postage calculations. Basic washers or cut cox bar. Homemade jobby £0 Posh machined aluminium spacers £26 https://www.davidbowyer.co.uk/_main/land_r...r_kits.htm Nakatanenga basic rails £43 https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defender-seat-risers/ Mud Rails £49 https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/mud-seat-rails.html Far corners £49.99 https://farcorners.co.uk/product/far-defender-front-seat-risers/ Defender upgrades £50 http://defenderupgrades.co.uk/product/land...eat-riser/ Exmore trim risers £58.20 https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/seat-riser.html Far corners box version £68.88 https://farcorners.co.uk/product/defender-...-per-seat/ Nakatanenga Premium £75 https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defe...s-premium/ Island 4x4 £132 https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/defender-seat...-7404.html I'm thinking the exmore, defender updrades and nakatanenga premium ones are all much of a muchness so on price itæd be the defender upgrade ones and save £50. Mud, Nakatanenga basic, far corners and the island offshore are all the same ish some box, some bent flat bar. (huge price range) Anyone been in a position to have tried the different types. In a real world comparison. Have I missed any. I'll update the post and add to the never ending poll Last edited by PCM on 27th Jan 2019 9:15am. Edited 1 time in total |

I wondered what to do about the home made options, I suppose I could probably buy some box section and drill a few holes to make one myself but my welding is c**p and i'd probably buy the wrong washers, Plus the pro ones do look neat. So for now I'm considering / comparing the 'posh' versions only and admire anyone who has made their own. |

To be honest I think they'll all move the seat to pretty much the same place, as they all have to lift it above the seat box lip with enough clearance for the existing bolts to go in and the new ones in the relocated holes for the seat.
Position/comfort is such a personal thing its a hard one to advise really. Unless you want something particularly pretty then the cheapest ones will do the job 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I'd suggest giving the penny washers - or something similar - a try before anything else.
All of the seat risers raise the rear of the seat to clear the lip at the rear of the seatbox to a greater or lesser degree, but all of them will raise it by a lot more more than what you can achieve with a few washers. For example on my 110 the sliding part of the seat rail clears the lip by around a millimetre. The issue then is that the extra height may not be ideal - for example being able to see out of the side window easily, which is what I found uncomfortable at T junctions, cross roads etc. Give the washers a go. plus most commercial options change the seat base angle too, which isint always ideal. Cheers

It's sometimes an advantage to change the seat angle. I needed to raise the rear, which meant lowering the front as the front of the original seat base was affecting an old knee injury. Nakatanenga seat riser has been more effective than NHS physios! Defender 90XS SW

I’ve recently bought two sets from 4x4 overlander that raised the rear but not the front. (Rear by 50mm front 10mm or similar).
I wouldn’t buy them again for two reasons. Not raising the front makes the seat base the wrong angle so on the drivers side I’ve ended up using packers, but at least you can tune it to your preference One raiser of the pair, on both seats hit the a bolt that is part of the construction of the seat box. Nothing major but a pain. As bolt needs removal and can’t be replaced. This would be the same on any flat bar makes, only resolved by using box style. I don’t remember any issues with mud rails that I’ve previously purchased. |

You're totally right, I'll give the washers a go to check teh heights then buy the one that best fits. I don't like the seat at the moment as my legs don't actually touch any of it and just arch up. Just my A**e touches. I tried to update the poll with washers, but can't figure it out. Sorry.. |

I'm using set of the Island 4X4 seat risers ( https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/defender-seat...-7404.html ), originally bought from Exmoor Trim a long time ago, These allow the seat angle to be adjusted either way for angle, excellent bits of kit, would buy another pair, but would be looking for a discount. I made my own too ...... a length of 2” channel (easier than box section ) and 8 longer (75mm) bolts 😎
Coat of black paint and sorted ..... Total cost about a tenner 👍🏻 Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |
