I’ve recently bought two sets from 4x4 overlander that raised the rear but not the front. (Rear by 50mm front 10mm or similar).

I wouldn’t buy them again for two reasons.

Not raising the front makes the seat base the wrong angle so on the drivers side I’ve ended up using packers, but at least you can tune it to your preference

One raiser of the pair, on both seats hit the a bolt that is part of the construction of the seat box. Nothing major but a pain. As bolt needs removal and can’t be replaced. This would be the same on any flat bar makes, only resolved by using box style.

I don’t remember any issues with mud rails that I’ve previously purchased.

Horses for courses i suppose ......i personally just wanted to be abe to move the seat backwards a little further with minimal seat rise (depends on body shape rather than overall height i suppose)
These mulgo seat raisers are ideal for this

but you cannot get the mulgo product in europe!

Overlander do sell a very similar product and with your caveats noted they do what i want from them .

It's sometimes an advantage to change the seat angle. I needed to raise the rear, which meant lowering the front as the front of the original seat base was affecting an old knee injury. Nakatanenga seat riser has been more effective than NHS physios!

which ones did you use?

The difficulty with Defender ownership is the variation between vehicles and their owners.

Unfortunately no two Defenders and their owners are the same.

Now I am not the tallest Defender owner closer to being a short arse.

So I do not need movement backwards. On one of our Defenders I had pressure on the underside of my thighs from the seat front base. Using our lowline seat rails my bum went up about 25mm and pressure under thighs disappeared and driving was a lot more comfortable.

What is right for one Defender owner is not right for another.

Best thing is to try seat rails out before purchasing if at all possible.

They didn't work for me - they lasted on the car one week before I removed them.

At 6,2", my eye line is inline with the top of the door window. Raising the seat up by even just the 20mm or so needed to clear the back of the seat box means that I could no longer see out the side window without tilting the neck down - gave me right neck ache.

I would echo what has been said above - try it with washers before you buy a set, just to see if you can live with the raised seating position. 2005 Td5 90 XS

I went with the washers to try it out, and then never ended up needing to buy anything else.

Like a few others I tried commercial seat risers on my old Td5 and on the current Puma but all of them raised the seat too high to see out of the side window easily. So I reverted to a few washers and then a mate at work offered to turn me up a few spacers since I'd run out of the standard thick washers.

This is my arrangement - see how close the sliding part of the seat is to the lip - the absolute minimum necessary. That works for me at 6'3".

Great idea! I also find looking out the side window somewhat difficult ---

I might be missing something here, but the point of the commercially available riser is to move the seat runner up and backwards isn’t it? Up to get the runner higher than the lip on the back of the seat box, and then backwards to give the extra legroom. How does adding just washer allow the seat to go further back? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

The seat will slide further back than the lip on the seat box allows. Lifting it over the lip gives you about 2 inches of extra legroom. Dave

It will give you a little bit more leg room, but you will gain more from rails that move the fixing points further backwards
