I "upgraded" from Ashcroft HD shafts and flanges to genuine one-piece around 25k miles ago and have been very happy with my decision (I run ATBs front, centre, and rear).
There's no equivalent for the front, but the front stub shafts and flanges are better lubricated and less prone to wear. |

Thanks for the feedback, blackwolf.
This will help me with parts selection when the time comes to change things again. |

Anyone considered welding / bonding the drive member and half shafts together? Ed

At one stage I'm sure I heard that because of the design of the end of later one piece shafts, the centre caps could not be fitted to the SVX/Dual Finish 16" alloys,...or am I imagining it?

Possibly true with fitting Discovery shafts as they're more bulbous, but the later ones have much flatter ends. So I don't see it being an issue.

Update to this one.....
Today a shiny pair of (deep breath,,,,) blue box 1 piece 110 rear shafts arrived. Shiny as they're not painted anymore But, first impression is; they look OK. nicely made. look straight, which is always a bonus. Will get them nailed in on the weekend, see if some of my slop and clanking can be eradicated. Ordered an Ashcroft P38 locker as well |

Yes,Mo... only the best
I had an ARB locker in my old Salisbury axle, but when I swapped that a few years back for the puma/late Td5 type casing, I became lockerless (apart from the front one) got some savings up now, and chatting to Brian at Cabmasters, he has a load of brand new ones for a good price. Definately worth a punt to anyone who's on the lookout. |

You'll like the Ashcroft locker over the arb, better engagement and quicker unlock too in my experience. Cheers

Well, new britpart shafts fitted yesterday.
I suspect they wern't made by britpart, as they seem well made.... castings on the drive flange end are very neat and tidy. All 5 bolt holes lined up perfectly, and comparing the old shaft with the new ones, all the thick & thinner parts line up. splines look good as well. I've only driven down the road and back, but driveline clunking is significantly less (although my CV joints are getting worn on the splines a bit, so that's another job) Just hope they're made of steel and not cheese.... time will tell, but so far... aces! |

After some consideration about heavy duty or standard , I changed my rear half shafts for the one piece britpart product about 12000 miles ago. No problems at all. Fitted perfectly. Paid about £130.00. maybe a gamble but so far so good 2015 90 XS Santorini Black
