I had the pleasure of speaking to Clayton on the phone the other week about a thatched cottage i am exchanging on tomorrow, really nice bloke and i now know who i will be calling when the roof needs some work!, very helpful and breaks it down to "numpty" level, so i understood what he was talking about-top man

Just on another ridging job so no new stuff for you, but this is the view from the ridge and thought that you could give yourself 10 points for knowing where it is

So another bit of different thatching for you as i can't remember the last time i did one of these
Not all thatched roofs have thatch on both sides, generally thatch one side and slate or tiles on the other side but they have to have a thatched ridge on to keep the water out. The back of this place was half thatched which we have just re-done and the other half is tiles. To start with you need a good fixing point, a new piece of 3 x 2 does the job nicely Click image to enlarge Then to prepare the bundles of reed, cut the tops off to shorten them Click image to enlarge Then to start putting them on Click image to enlarge Finished putting them on the full length of the tiles Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge As they were fixed on with metal crooks i am putting a line of reed on fixed with spars ( wooden pegs ) as a extra safety measure so the water does not follow down where the crooks go into the wood Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Then once that has all been done, it's time to put the ridge on and all trimmed Click image to enlarge Ridge on with the netting on Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge In all the job went well and pleased with the overall outcome 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
