As a few of you are interested in the work i do, i have an update for you as i was sent a couple of pic's by the owners of what the place looks like with all the scaffolding down but not yet finished in doors, the pic's have been took to far away but you can still see, this first pic is the back of the property ..........................................................
Click image to enlarge This second pic is of the front and to the right hand side is a slate roof, we are meant to go back and thatch it, so if we do, i can take some better pic's for you .............................................. I hope you will be passing your skills on to the next generation. A thatched roof really has something about it |

Many thanks Rashers Alas i am not passing it on as A. both my daughters don't like heights B. most people/youngsters think its all about the money, but this job you have to love the job itself, not the money C. health & safety has killed the chance of teaching someone to take it on, just to much hassle 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Great work Clayton, credit to you! It's an unusual looking house but beautiful.
I like seeing these too! Please keep them coming. Not what you think
This method is Called " Dressing the roof " It's for getting all the different types of moss off the roofs and at the same time is to get the " dead " ends off to help the roof last longer and then to level out any dips/valleys so that the water does not concentrate in that one area and then the roof will ware more evenly So the first pic is what the roof looked like before i started, i forgot to take one of the whole roof ........................ Click image to enlarge The next pic is to the right hand side of the ladder and has been dressed, you can see the difference what it has done and the dark patches are were the moss was holding in the water and not doing the reed any good, if left it will rot out that part very quickly .......................... Click image to enlarge The next pic is the whole of the back roof with the dressed and the part of the roof waiting to be dressed, you can see by the lightness of the dressed part it is drying already ........................................... Click image to enlarge Now to do all of this work, you need specialist tools In Devon we call them Drifts, other parts of the country call them by different names The first pic is of my right hand drift, as you can see i have modified it to cope with the toughness of the reed by putting some metal on to protect the wood ............................................ Click image to enlarge The next pic is of my left hand drift, not used to much and sadly not maintained as my right hand drift is ....................... Click image to enlarge I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into what i do By the way, all of the moss and dead ends of the reed make good compos, so we have always people after it 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
