If the grille has to be silver it should match the body, not be a different shade. I quite like the silver grille on a black vehicle but thats all, looks a bit daft on the others. 2011 110 USW

Right, my heart rate has just slowed enough to put pen to paper, as it were.
After 5 weeks of over promising and under delivering (mainly on updates about delivery/build dates) the Sales Manager who I'd dealt with throughout, and who called me on Friday afternoon to confirm the appointment the next day, was mysteriously absent come 10.30am on Saturday. The dippy receptionist was unaware of our appointment and didn't know who we were going to have to see. The salesman who then dealt with us was efficient. Then we get to see the vehicle. The snorkel is fitted 1/2 inch too high and the curved wing-side profile of the base allows a finger to be slid underneath! A harbour for grime and corrosion let alone the possibility of wind noise and the asthaetics. The only fitter present had never fitted one before so 'couldn't comment'!! Now, of course, the upper bracket has been attached to the A-post and will require 2 more holes to be drilled once they lower the thing. They'll be hidden by the bracket but that's 2 holes i didn't need. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Sorry it's on its side. I can't be asked to fiddle around with it. The HINGED front light guards are the fixed type, screwed top and bottom!! The moulded spare wheel cover is 'out of stock'. They did at least manage to lay the rubber mats inside without a hitch!! Then the fun began. I left, with my son in the front passenger seat and my wife drove her 206 home. As requested by my lad, we listened to The Proclaimers on the way home, singing away. Between tracks and braking at junctions and queues of traffic there was an almighty knocking from the rear end. Rear prop/UJ/diff area. Slowing down in it's frequency as we slowed. It can't be heard at any greater speeds. It's so bad that my 8 year old asked me of we were breaking down!! We arrived home, 75 miles into ownership, and turned off. The loud metal-on-metal crunching and grinding from beneath the footwells was shocking. To demonstrate to my wife I fired it up again for it to happen on ignition too. Sounds really damaging and violent. So, a call to the salesman who vowed to make the Sales Manager aware on Monday (today) at 8.30. I waited, and waited. My wife then called the dealer and asked for him. 'He's on the other line'. In that case I'll speak to the Dealer Principle. 'One moment please. oh, hang on, Michael's here now'. Twenty minutes later he called me asking how I was as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Apparently his wife had flu on Saturday so he had to stay at home to look after his child. Yeh, right. They are colllecting it at midday (it's 100 miles from them to me at work). The female driver who's coming to get it 'knows the vehicles so please demonstrate the faults' Reassured? No. And before the sexism police get busy on here it's because she's just a 'driver', not a mechanic. As I went through the issues (including a paint gouge below the rear door external hinge and a dent in the side panel betweent he body capping and the 'van' side panel) I noticed that the Defender brochure lists 'leather covered gear and transfer knobs as standard on the XS. Indeed, the photo on an earlier page shows them. The Sales Manager says he's never seen one with leather there. I said I have and it's advertised as a STANDARD fitment, not a dealer fit option. They go with the leather steering wheel and the leather seats. He's to investigate that too. Anybody know better? My wife hasn't driven it yet and is showing no interest in it while it's in this state. God knows what they tested for on the road test (4.3 miles on the odometer when I pulled away). At the moment I feel utterly deflated, in fact, devastated. The Sales Manager doesn't sound the same however. Updates to follow, if I don't top myself beforehand. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated D300 HSE 110 |

This sounds like what our Yankee cousins would call a Lemon - nice to look at but leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
If it were me, they would be getting 1 chance to rectify ALL issues, and failing that a full refund to you and take the thing back. Good luck. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

Really sorry to hear that mate....
Second what Daviec1 has said. Hope it sorts itself to your satisfaction Edit : Every second hand XS I've ever looked at has leather gear/transfer lever knobs, so reckon it's a factory standard fit Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |
