The penny dropped today to a question I have wondered about for years;
“Why are the Defenders wings the shape they are?” The answer seems so obvious now... ![]() Click image to enlarge I’ll get me coat ![]() ![]() |

What can I say... I have been bitten... LED bulbs lasted a week before they started dying. So have bought a pack of 10 standard 286 bulbs that I hope will be quality items as they are made by Osram. Love that they came in a box and no plastic packaging ![]() Replacing the bulbs again tomorrow... ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Bit of early morning snow in Anglesey. Loving the BFG AT KO2s, such a positive drive in the snow;

So here we go, all the bulbs have been replaced with the Osram items and I am thrilled with them, lovely warm light, no bright spots, no dark spots and hopefully they will last a little longer than those hideous LED items I bought... I am thinking that some things are just best left right alone... Not LED bulbs; ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Yesterday, after work I took a drive over the great divide (Menai Strait
![]() My first stop was the car park below Tryfan (the best of the mountains in Snowdonia IMHO) and a short walk with the dog to stretch his legs. It is the first time in ages that I have seen Llyn Ogwen frozen over and Tryfan looked magnificent. My biggest failure of last night was only having my iPhone for photos... ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge The second half of the drive over Llanberis pass became increasingly more interesting as the snow descended in droves, but Miffy was faultless and the BFG AT KO2s were fantastic. Slowly made my way down the valley until Cromlech bridge where i came across a BMW 1 seres stranded with a mother a daughter looking awfully miserable. They had over-reached their comfort zone by quite some margin and looked as white as the snow around them. Minutes later they were back on the road to Llanberis with Miffy not far behind. Within minutes I had a convoy of nine vehicles tagged on behind Miffy and our train of cold and frightened people were making their way safely back down the mountain. It was quite the sight. Well almost everyone... there was a white van that decided snow and ice be damned, he was getting home fast and proceeded to over take everyone around corners, slipping and sliding all over the road, braking so close to the back of vehicles, tailgating and then he disappeared. Good riddance. Honestly not sure if I should report his ridiculous driving to the cops or not, it was horrendously dangerous and scared the other members of the convoy... Anyway at Llanberis I received a heap of thankful toots and thanks for the assist. For what was meant to be just a quick jaunt through the hills turned in to quite an evening. Love owning a Land Rover ![]() |

It is not all 4wheeling and grins, this is a photo of a dear friends car that she was forced to abandon near Okehampton last night. The drifts were moving so quickly that the car was covered within 45 minutes of stopping. Believe it or not there are other vehicles in the photo too.
![]() Click image to enlarge Thankfully the Police and MRT teams rescued her and her dogs. Makes you wonder how many folks have been trapped over night... Also makes you damned grateful for all the rescue services and willing volunteers (4x4 Response Teams across the country) that have been working exceptionally hard this past few days and it is not over yet neither. I know there are a good number of 4x4 Response Team members on this forum. Many thanks for all your efforts people ![]() ![]() Our story: Kate, Pi and I made it down from Anglesey to Devon with only a little hold up on the M5 just north of the M4. A small hill but a steep gradient that had forced many lorries to a standstill. There was just enough room for us (and others with 4x4s) to slowly pick our way through them and on to Exeter we went. We stopped at every abandoned vehicle along the way to check for trapped people, thankfully no-one at home. Amazingly silly driving from a selection of ordinary cars... Eeeeshk...! had us puckering more than once. Interestingly we came across no emergency services at all. Many snow ploughs and gritters though. We cruised in to Exeter a little before 0200 and noticed that some lady was glowering at us. I assumed it was for waking her up or something, but it turned out to be a look of desperation. Turns out she had called for an ambulance over 4 hours earlier because her husband had fallen and dislocated his shoulder. Dumped the baggage, dog and wife off and off we go to Royal Devon and Exeter A&E. How about that for fate... Drive from Anglesey to Exeter, for 12 hours and turn up outside the door of someone that desperately needs a knight wearing the "green oval". ![]() It was obvious that our four day training event on Okehampton was not going to happen so we have chilled out and been out for a nice walk with the dog and our friends. Could have done with a heated windscreen though... Freezing rain over night left 5mm of sheet ice all over Miffy; ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge And who needs Dirt-Defenders... Great work helping out there!
One thing that strikes me is that when push comes to shove you'll always find someone willing to help and they usually drive a Defender... Roads around me tonight - not a car in sight but plenty of Defender drivers ferrying people around! Great looking Landy too, loving the ice effect paintwork ![]() ![]() Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |
