Puma dash CANbus controller
Nothing to do with me, but over on the D90 site, a chap has finally made an adaptor to run the puma dash.

Am I reading that correctly?

Does this allow you to put the Puma dash into a pre-Puma vehicle?

No, It allows you to fit a GenV1 / LS v8 into a Puma Defender and link the GM loom to the puma dash and have the instruments work without needing to (amongst other things) keep the puma engine Ecu.

Its a massive step forward. They are also looking at doing the same for the TD5 Dash but its too late for me! 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.

That's a good step forward. And plans for V8 & Tdi too, excellent.

It will allow the use of a Puma dash in a pre-Puma vehicle, at the moment only with the LS engine/ECU setup but once they sort it for V8/Tdi you'll be able to link it to any engine.

Td5 doesn't use CANBUS so those gauges can be made to work with practically any engine/vehicle quite easily.

Hi guys
Do you have any news about that CAN converter that will allow a PUMA dash to read a rover V8?
Many thanks

I've been in touch with safari HP because I would like to order one. We are going to build a TD5 with puma dash in a few months.
They want me to take some measurements, voltage on RPM gauge at three points and voltage on temp gauge at three points.
I think I won't take the voltage of the RPM output of the TD5 Ecu but that I will add a 'W' connection to the alternator, that way it will work on a 300TDI as well.

But haven't had time to take measurements yet.

Yes, from scratch. I've had a prototype system running a Puma dashboard and set up to read Td5 inputs. Just haven't had the time to get it developed any further Sad Sad

Maybe I should crowdfund getting it finished? Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Very nice Thumbs Up

Crowd funding can be very successful, there are a lot of startups who have gained substantial funding to get products to market. Can't harm to give it a go Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Have you deciphered all canbus messages already?
Than it would not be too difficlut to built with an arduino?
I haven't heard back from safari HP . They said they would build one for me, but after that they haven't responded to any of my emails anymore.

I think it would be best not to have the TD5 ecu send the temp, but to use a universal VDO sender, then it could be used on all engine types.

If anyone on here can build an interface I'm happy to buy one. A few years ago I wanted to build one my self with an arduino with canbus shield but I have the same problem... no time..

Hello,

Martin did you make any Progress with the controller?

maybe alradey start a crowdfund? also ibeen in contact with safari HP but stil they say it would take 3 months.

I would be realy interested in a controller or at least in the code to control the defender dash.

recently started to rebuild my td5 auto. bougt a complete donor due to the time availeble and aranged some help.

I would like to ude the td5 instruments. i like the look. but don't have the time to find out the complete logic.

I willing to pay for the code or a controller. . maybe you can send me a PM?

Lennard,
