No more interest Looks like 10% off at best if a couple of us want one. I think the best option is to start a new thread specifically about group buy interest and sitting it out until enough people sign....maybe ask Martin to sticky it. |

The rack on the bay isn't much use for me, the transport costs pluse the additional ladder that would need to come from patriot make it not worth while. I also want it powder coated. |

The second hand Patriot rack went for £900.20 and was pick up only from Northallerton!
Am guessing but the seller originally paid about a £1,000 for it. Not bad for depreciation Brendan |

Now mine not a massive saving on new but it's got the load rails and it's just down the road from work. I can get it powder coated for £100 if I do the prep and I don't need a second ladder as I've now fitted a sonic wheel carrier (I'll fabricate a straight bar mount thingy for the support) so all in all compared to the £1500+ for the dcpu one new it's a result Armed with my Howling Moon tent, rack, webasto heater Morroco here we come!!! Just need a Engel freezer, Howling moon awning and split charge and I'm sorted Formerly mao99999 16 Focus RS Nitrous Blue. 11 FFRR TDV8 Vouge SE Black Black. 08 DEFENDER SVX SOFT TOP (SUPERB) 08 DEFENDER 110 DCPU Stornoway grey (Overland Exploration Unit) 05 Fiesta ST 150 Van 04 Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged V8 02 DEFENDER 90 TD5 (next years soft top project) 95 DEFENDER 110 CSW 300 TDi Phoenix black 95 DEFENDER 90 HT Monti Carlo blue COUNTY 300 TDi 67 109" SERIES 2a TUNED 200 TDI 64 DAVID BROWN 990 rat look 55 86" SERIES 1 |

Yes you have saved yourself a couple of bob. Large items like that are worth more if you are local to seller.
Why a webasto heater for Morocco? Engel fridges work well but I suggest you also consider the ARB range of fridges We have used both and our preference is for the ARB. Brendan |

The Webasto just incase! Apparently it's cold overnight in the desert? And we travelling in March with a stop over in the UK coming back there's nothing worse than waking up freezing As for the freezer I'll follow your advice Brendan and look into the ARB range Formerly mao99999 16 Focus RS Nitrous Blue. 11 FFRR TDV8 Vouge SE Black Black. 08 DEFENDER SVX SOFT TOP (SUPERB) 08 DEFENDER 110 DCPU Stornoway grey (Overland Exploration Unit) 05 Fiesta ST 150 Van 04 Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged V8 02 DEFENDER 90 TD5 (next years soft top project) 95 DEFENDER 110 CSW 300 TDi Phoenix black 95 DEFENDER 90 HT Monti Carlo blue COUNTY 300 TDi 67 109" SERIES 2a TUNED 200 TDI 64 DAVID BROWN 990 rat look 55 86" SERIES 1 |

Sorry - chipping in late to the debate as usual.
When I bought my 2.8m Patriot rack + rails + fixings + ladder, the total weight is around 80kg. I weighed that up in my mind (groan ) when trying to decide between Hannibal and Patriot. Both seem to be excellent racks. Patriot: + Definitely the stronger of the two (you only have to look at how it's built) + Slightly easier to fix in the field + More adaptable I suspect and if I balls something up by drilling it to fit a custom bracket (which they ask you not to do) then I can just re-order that rail or part. + British made Hannibal: + Much lighter (and I've never heard of anyone breaking one so they're obviously also pretty strong) + Have those natty T-shaped tie down fasteners in the extruded aluminium rails + It won't rattle loose I eventually went for the Patriot. I know it's heavy (a significant % of your recommended maximum amount) but it's also the strongest part of the Defender north of the chassis. I quite liked the idea of having something that'll not crumple in the event of a rollover (which, of course, it'll probably cause by pushing the weight up top) given that I'm not fitting a cage for the moment. It'll shear it's mounts but trust me, it wont twist much and will spread the impact pretty well. Also it's of a bomb proof construction and I know that any bits I knacker for one reason or another can easily be replaced from those helpful chaps in Bedford. However, I think the biggest factor for me was that it's British and I like supporting local businesses (call me a patriot - groan ) If you do buy a Patriot, you'll need 2 of you to put it together and preferably 3 to lift it on. Also SOAK THE STAINLESS BOLTS IN WD40 BEFORE YOU START. They're made of a special marine stainless that has a very low oil content and they bind like hell. I promise you - it'll save you several hours, a lot of blue language and 3 drill bits. If you buy a Hanninal then well done and good luck One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |
