puma gearbox - thoughts
as mentioned elsewhere I should be replacing my gearbox in the not too distant......

question being should I retain the old box for a rebuild and potential refit in years to come or sell it?

If I sell any thoughts on where best to sell it and at what sort of cost. the box will have completed circa 50k miles as it was a replacement under warranty when my def was approx. 2 years old.

thoughts / suggestions much appreciated.

Keep it to put back in when you find that either the "new" one is worse, or that the new one doesn't align with the transfer box as well as the old and your output adaptor shaft joint now only lasts 1500 miles between failures.

What's wrong with the "old" one, how "old" is it, & how many miles has it done?
Pickles.

G'day Pickles

Possibly nothing but through a process of elimination I'm determined to sort my rather annoying intermittent clatter.

It's my second box and has done approx 50k miles.

I suspect as a minimum either slave cylinder or restricter valve are pants and the box has to come out anyway so while at it I might as well change the box and check out the clutch and adapter shaft too Thumbs Up

If it changes gear, without any noises (grauging) between gears. Then I would suggest the gearbox is ok... Obviously check/change the oil whilst it's out.. The Clatter is more than likely to be the clutch.. removal of the gearbox should confirm this...
The TDCi gearboxes should be good for 250K plus if looked after.. It's just all the bit LR bolt on/in/around them that are usually suspect.. Clutch, Transfer box, Output shaft...ETC

Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...
