The G20 have said that a leave vote by the UK will shock the world economy and that is an argument for staying in.
That said the shock would be short lived and economies will re-balance ( as always ) so does a short term shock matter. I think there is a danger that the country will leave the EU through the apathy of the young voters who tend not to turn out whereas the typical older voter will and the polls tend to show the older generation are far more sceptical when it comes to the EU than youngsters. |

In my eyes the in vs. out argument is simple...
We put 14.7 Billion in every year and we get out 10.4 Billion, a large part of which we have Maggie Thatcher to thank as she negotiated for it (about £6.9 Billion) many years ago due to the situation in the UK. So NET cost to the UK is 4.3 Billion 70% of which goes to lesser developed nations and 30% on 'admin', this in the grand scheme of things is COMPLETELY NEGLIGIBLE against the 4% of GDP or £78 Billion annually attributable to EU membership. This figure was spawned from an independent body (with no political agenda) defined in a report (think it was CBI). The important thing about this report was that is was talking to small and medium sized business' within the UK not mega corporations/multinationals, asking them directly their thoughts, what benefits they were actually feeling and what issues there were etc this is info from them and not politically charged conservative party leadership dribble.. Talking about the conservative party leadership contest, one last point as I'm getting rather sick of this EU debate, we're flooded by comments from ill informed people (i'm not directing this at Defender2.net people) who state what they've heard or read written by people with strong political agendas or malice. Do your own homework people, make your own mind up and please do not listen to who shouts loudest or has the best promotion. The Conservative party leadership contest is not the EU referendum and listening to anyone associated with it on anything related to the EU debate at this moment in time is just plain daft. ![]() 2004 Santorini Black TD5 110 XS SW left hooker for sale! 2004 Alpine White TD5 110 left hooker (work in progress) |

“The Conservative party leadership contest is not the EU referendum”
Well said, sir! One couldn't be more pro-EU than Boris, but what he says and does in the coming months will be with the bigger prize in mind. Don't be fooled by his dizziness and the away-with-the-fairies persona (which he learnt from his father: I worked for the European Parliament between 1979 and 1993 when his Dad was an MEP, and being “silly” was a great way to avoid the nitty-gritty. What gets more votes? Crying about Canadians slaughtering baby seals, or choosing between cheap foreign cars for the consumer or unemployment in Coventry?) In his own words: “I've had the best education money can buy”, I've a soft spot for him. And yes, I'm pro-EU, I've got thirteen years' experience with the European Parliament and twelve with the European Commission's foreign service (boy do I miss diplomatic immunity!) to reinforce my opinions. But I won't bore you with them, and I don't really care if the UK leaves or not. My pension fund is in euro, and if the pound crashes I'll be worth more! Peter |

I will keep my opinions on this matter between me and the ballot box but for me the following comments are particularly pertinent.

I don't think Nicola Sturgeon gets irony.
The first minister also claimed that being part of the EU was about "solidarity, social protection and mutual support". Uk anyone ? HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

If the result is no, then we will probably have another referendum, (very much like Ireland did when they were given a referendum to leave the EU), until the result is how the British government wish it.
If all else fails then we will have a referendum that will say on the ballot paper: VOTE YES TO STAY IN THE EU. VOTE NO IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH LEAVING THE EU. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |
