Stainless exhaust decat worth the mod?
Speaking to one of the traders at billing about stainless exhausts, and he claimed a a full 110 puma with decat would give a nice sound and would feel a lot better, I have looked on YouTube (sad I know) and have found a couple that give a type of turbo dump valve noise, what causes this?

I have a remapped 2.4 110

Is it worth the £500 for the upgrade? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

I have the TD5 version of the flatdog stainless steel decat pipe and it's made a positive difference to both noise and responsiveness. Much less than £500 if a decat is all your after:

Hope that helps.

An answer I posted from an intercooler thread of yours......but at £500 I would say definitely not for that price!

A decat in my opinion was the cheapest option for the most significant engine performance gain available. Decats still sell and current legislation is a visual check only for the presence of one. A catalytic convertor strangles the breath out of your engine, removing it allows the turbo to spool up quicker. For the average user to achieve noticeable gains a decat is still in my own opinion the cheapest and best option by far. Final choice however is really up to the individual.

An intercooler will not provide power gain but will compliment a remap perfectly reducing operating temperatures of your engine which is a good thing!

Option 3..... contact James Beard the 'horse dentist' (do a search on the forum using 'horse dentist') of Griffin. There are numerous members that have one of his stainless systems fitted (myself included) and it cost nowhere near the £500 you mention and has a no quibble lifetime guarantee. I will 'pm' you his mobile phone number and you can discuss directly with him your requirements! (If the number is still good?)

I designed and got my own 'cat' made up in stainless and welded it onto the decat pipe in the same position the TD5 cats are sat. No mither since.

I had a decat on the 2,4, with no middle box either, I didnt like the sound of the turbo over run so im building back to standard.

The Decat may go on again with the middle and rear boxes at a later stage "Rafiki" 2007 110 STW - Rolling rebuild.

Not saying a "De-cat" exhaust won't look & sound nice,...will probably make you feel good too, but I would suggest that any actual performance gains will be minimal, if any,...the "bum dyno" sometimes does not tell the true story.
Not familiar with your "laws", but don't you guys have a yearly "M.O.T." or something like that to pass yearly?
Pickles.

Yes we do have MOTs Pickles and there is loads of information readily available about decat and MOT if you are that interested and care to look. It is a well proven and documented fact that the turbo spools up quicker once the cat has been removed. As a result there are the associated increased gains to be had at an earlier stage.

May I ask what are you basing your 'suggestion' on please? Pete or Gary could undoubtedly expand further?

If you are keeping the car in standard tune the Decat front section is the best bet for the first exhaust mods. This will help with turbo spool and free up the breathing of the engine. Regards Pete.

Explain?...Not a problem, I don't need to, I'm simply giving my opinion, on this "exhaust only" mod.
HOWEVER, if the guy proposing to do this mod, is agreeable to a "before & after" run on the rollers, providing power & torque readings, WITH NO OTHER MODS, he may find that I'm not too far off the mark.
That is the only true way to establish the FACTS. Dyno reading graphs showing power & torque throughout the rpm range,..and like I said, for the car to be in IDENTICAL tune/condition, before & after.
That is the only true way to establish any power gains.
What happens with the M.O.T., if the decat was found to be removed?
Pickles.
